'Ultimate Wolverine' #2 Teases A Fiery Showdown vs. the X-Men Gone Rogue

‘Ultimate Wolverine’ #1 has been a massive success for Marvel Comics, and we’re pleased to announce that the second issue will be one as well. While Wolverine is usually the star of the X-Men, this series puts a new spin on the character. Logan’s still a weapon, but now his former X-Men teammates have turned him into something like the Winter Soldier. In a preview of ‘Ultimate Wolverine’ #2, Logan faces off against one of these former allies.

The sneak peek, created by Chris Condon, Alessandro Cappuccio, and Bryan Valenza, follows up on the shocking events of issue #1, where Wolverine killed Nightcrawler and Mystique during a secret mission.

Both were part of a group called the Opposition, who stood against Colossus, Magik, and Omega Red’s rule over the Eurasian Republic. In this universe, Piotr and Illyana Rasputin are villains working for The Maker, an evil version of Reed Richards who rewrote history to stop heroes from fulfilling their destinies.

The Maker divided the Ultimate Universe into regions controlled by his evil council. Colossus, Magik, and Omega Red formed a secret group called Directorate X to take advantage of mutants, with Wolverine being one of their biggest successes. After Wolverine survived an attack on a base held by the Opposition, Dr. Prostovich from Directorate X saw his potential and recommended him for the Adamantium bonding process, turning him into the deadly weapon he is now.

In the preview, the Maker is shown setting a building on fire (possibly Xavier’s school), soldiers fighting in snowy conditions, a Directorate X meeting, and Colossus violently attacking Wolverine. Unlike the heroic Colossus from Earth-616, this version is a ruthless leader of the Eurasian Republic who kills without hesitation to achieve his plans.

“THE MAKER’S COUNCIL AND THEIR ULTIMATE WEAPON!” a description of Ultimate Wolverine #2 reads. “Colossus, Omega Red and Magik put the Ultimate Wolverine to the test by seeing how well he handles the OPPOSITION, a group fighting for mutant liberation!”
