Numerous Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) projects are currently in progress or slated for imminent release. However, none generate as much excitement among fans as ‘Daredevil: Born Again.’ Initially intended as a reboot of the existing Netflix ‘Daredevil’ series, the plan to revive the live-action Daredevil Universe within the MCU faced a setback. Fans were notably disappointed, as the reboot meant that certain beloved cast members wouldn’t be reprising their roles.

Rumors circulated that Karen and Foggy were initially slated to meet an off-screen demise between the events of ‘Daredevil’ season 3 and ‘Daredevil: Born Again.’ However, upon viewing the initial episodes of the upcoming show, the executives opted for crucial alterations, abandoning the original plan. With a fresh creative team at the helm, the series is set to take a different trajectory, appearing to serve as a seamless extension of the existing ‘Daredevil’ show—a fact affirmed by D’Onofrio in his interview with THR.

During our restart of all the creative on Daredevil: Born Again, all the creatives got together and said, ‘Look, this is how we’ve got to do it now,’” D’Onofrio says. “So we are for sure only speaking about it in terms of being directly connected to the original Daredevil, and that’s a great thing. It brings in a lot of cool stories and all the collateral story that happened in those original three seasons.”

The rumors suggesting Foggy and Karen’s return in ‘Born Again’ align with D’Onofrio’s statements. Additionally, the canonization of Netflix’s Defenders Saga in the MCU timeline through the release of ‘Echo’ underscores the executives’ intent to seamlessly continue the beloved narrative. D’Onofrio further remarked on the post-credit scene in ‘Echo,’ strongly hinting at Kingpin’s involvement in the New York Mayoral race, indicating the starting point for his character in ‘Daredevil: Born Again.’

“I don’t think he’s changed; I think he’s enlightened,” D’Onofrio says. “I haven’t seen a lot of the episodes of Echo. So, in my mind, after everything goes down with Maya, he gets on a plane, and … by the end of that flight, he decides, ‘If I want to be all powerful, this is what I’m going to do.’ That’s the most I can tell you.”

Nevertheless, ‘Born Again’ appears to be heading in the right direction. The anticipated release of the show is slated for 2025.
