Wanda’s journey in the MCU has been complex. She began as a villain, transitioned into a hero, faced tragedy, experienced loss, briefly returned to villainy, and then reclaimed a heroic mantle by destroying the Darkhold and seemingly sacrificing herself.
The conclusion of ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ left her fate uncertain. Official statements haven’t clarified whether Wanda is still alive within the MCU.
Many fans, myself included, think that mere collapsing debris wouldn’t pose a significant threat to a Nexus being with such vast Multiversal potential. After all, we’ve seen Wanda endure far worse, so her return seems likely. Lately, there have been rumors suggesting she might get her own standalone movie. Even if that doesn’t materialize, there are several projects where her return would make perfect sense.
1. ‘Vision Quest’
Vision was Wanda’s romantic partner throughout much of the MCU, and his loss drove her to shatter reality. In the finale of ‘WandaVision,’ we witnessed the emergence of White Vision, a creation of S.W.O.R.D. Wanda’s Vision attempts to restore White Vision’s memories using the Mind Stone from his own forehead, sparking a philosophical debate about the essence of identity. Ultimately, White Vision regains his memories and departs without explanation, leaving his fate uncertain.
We’re aware that a spinoff project titled ‘Vision Quest’ is in development, indicating the potential for Wanda to return to his show. This could offer her an opportunity to seek closure for both herself and the newly-created Vision amidst his existential crisis.
2. ‘Wonder Man’
If you’re not versed in the comics or the character ‘Wonder Man,’ you might not know about his close ties to Vision and Wanda. Unlike J.A.R.V.I.S., Vision’s creation in the comics involved using Wonder Man’s brainwaves. Though never explicitly stated, it’s implied that this is why Vision possessed emotions—they stemmed from Wonder Man’s brainwaves.
After Vision’s disassembly and reassembly into White Vision, he lacked any emotions, not even for Wanda, causing her great distress. She pleaded with Wonder Man to help restore Vision’s emotions by providing his brainwaves once more.
However, Wonder Man refused, driven by his own selfish motives. Throughout Wanda and Vision’s relationship, Wonder Man harbored jealousy because he, too, had feelings for Scarlet Witch. While it’s unlikely that the Wonder Man show will precisely follow this storyline, Wanda could potentially appear to navigate another complicated dynamic with him or to establish a connection between MCU’s Wonder Man and White Vision.
3. Rumored Wiccan Series
Before the SAG-AFTRA strike, ‘WandaVision’ was poised to spark numerous spinoffs. Some, like ‘Vision Quest’ and ‘Agatha,’ came to fruition, while others, like the rumored series centered on Wiccan, remained mere speculation.
Reportedly, the show will adapt ‘The Children’s Crusade,’ a Marvel Comics storyline from 2010-2011, which primarily involves characters from the Young Avengers and Scarlet Witch. In ‘The Children’s Crusade,’ the Young Avengers embark on a quest to find and confront Scarlet Witch, who caused a reality-warping catastrophe with her abilities. Her actions in previous storylines, such as ‘Avengers Disassembled’ and ‘House of M,’ had far-reaching consequences for the Marvel Universe. There were also rumors suggesting this show would pave the way for her own standalone movie.
4. ‘X-Men’ reboot
This might seem like a bit of a stretch, considering Wanda’s limited connections to mutants in the MCU. However, there was a leak circulating a while back with claims that the X-Men would serve as a catalyst for Wanda’s return to the MCU. According to the leak, the mutants would face near-extinction and require Scarlet Witch to orchestrate a “House of M”-style event to give them a fighting chance or integrate them into the mainline MCU.
5. ‘Secret Wars’
‘Secret Wars’ makes this list because almost every character is rumored to appear in that movie, including RDJ’s Iron Man. Of course, we’re referring to the Wanda variant, not the mainline Scarlet Witch we’re accustomed to seeing. In ‘Secret Wars,’ Wanda’s presence means it’s irrelevant whether she’s dead or alive in the MCU. With the Multiverse wide open, the possibilities for variants are endless.
