We’re Convinced ‘Agatha All Along’s’ Rio Vidal is a Gender-Bent Blackheart – Here’s Why
Agatha All Along premiered with its first two episodes, and while fans are loving it, critics have a more mixed response. The series continues after WandaVision, showing Agatha—now called Agnes—living under a spell from the Scarlet Witch until she is freed by Locke’s character, The Teen.
Agatha and The Teen team up to navigate the Witches Road, with The Teen seeking power and Agatha looking to regain her own, as she returns without her abilities.
The show feels somewhat disconnected from the main MCU, especially since the magical elements surrounding Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch haven’t been deeply explored. However, it establishes a solid foundation for characters that could connect to Ghost Rider and the Midnight Sons if you’re attuned to the hints.
One of the first supporting characters introduced is Aubrey Plaza’s Rio Vidal, who has been confirmed as a green witch before the series began. To traverse the Witches’ Road, Agatha needs a coven and starts reaching out to her past “friends” and “acquaintances.” Eventually, she meets Lilia Calderu (Patti LuPone), a witch who gives her a list of potential recruits, which intriguingly includes a symbol—a black heart.
Agatha rightly concludes that this symbol points to a green witch. While she initially considers her neighbor Mrs. Hart (Debra Jo Rupp), the inclusion of Rio Vidal suggests a more complex history between them that may hint at a romantic past.
Agatha mentions the black heart, explaining that Lilia used a black pen to draw it, but this could also imply something darker related to Mephisto.
Mephisto is rumored to appear in both Agatha All Along and the forthcoming Ironheart series, which will delve into magic in the MCU. So, what better time to introduce his daughter, or rather a gender-bent version of Blackheart?
Indeed, from that black heart, we can infer that Rio Vidal is actually Blackheart reimagined as a female character.
Blackheart was born from the accumulation of evil in a place called Christ’s Crown, New York, which has been marred by centuries of violence and sin. Mephisto, drawn to this growing darkness, created Blackheart from this energy and raised him as his heir, teaching him to corrupt everything and everyone.
As a demon, Blackheart wields formidable supernatural powers, including dark magic, reality manipulation, superhuman strength, speed, and endurance. He can also teleport, read minds, and project energy.
Blackheart frequently battled Ghost Rider, and with rumors circulating about Ghost Rider’s arrival in the MCU, alongside mentions of Jennifer Kale and other clues, Agatha All Along might be paving the way for a potential Midnight Sons project.
