The world of Star Wars is one that’s full of different characters that have played important roles in the storyline, and the clones are some of the most prominent non-Jedi characters. Despite the fact that they were just clones of Jango Fett, the clones were treated as friends and trusted allies by the Jedi during the Clone Wars. Of course, one of the most prominent clones that worked closely with Obi-Wan Kenobi during the Clone Wars was Commander Cody, who ended up betraying him during Order 66. But what happened to Commander Cody after Order 66?

Commander Cody continued serving the Empire after Order 66 and was last seen in the final enslavement of the Wookiees of Kashyyk. However, after that, not much is known about his fate as the Empire had already transitioned from using clone troopers to stormtroopers to save costs.

Even though Commander Cody was always quite prominent as a character during the events of the Clone Wars, he somehow disappeared long after the events of Order 66. Of course, with the recent release of The Bad Batch season 2 trailer, we may get some idea of what happened to Cody and what his ultimate fate will be in the storyline of Star Wars.

Who Is Commander Cody In Star Wars?

During the days of the Galactic Republic, especially during the Clone Wars, one of the things that we learned was that the Republic relied heavily on the clones in the war against the Separatists. Of course, while the clones were often seen as foot soldiers that were expendable, the Jedi saw them as loyal allies that became their friends in a common cause. That means that both Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker were able to make a lot of friends among the different clones that they fought alongside during the Clone Wars.

While the mainline movies of Star Wars failed to give justice to the characters, some of the more prominent clones were actually given more screen time and recognition in the Star Wars: Clone Wars series and in Star Wars: The Batch. One such character that became one of the most well-known clones that fought alongside the Jedi was Commander Cody.

Where Was Obi-Wan Kenobi During Order 66?

CC-2224, nicknamed Cody, was a high-ranking clone commander during the time of the Clone Wars and was the commander of the 7th Sky Corps. Due to his position, he was second-in-command to General Obi-Wan Kenobi. That was the reason why he was quite close to Obi-Wan and often went on missions with the Jedi during the events of the Clone Wars.

Of course, Obi-Wan enjoyed Cody’s company because he found him trustworthy and loyal. On top of that, Cody had combat and strategic qualities that were exceptional when compared to the other clones. That was the reason why he earned himself such a high position among the clones and was one of the people that Obi-Wan relied on during the war.

While a good part of Commander Cody’s storyline was revealed during the events of the Star Wars: Clone Wars series, he also appeared in the Battle of Utapau when the war was about to end. This happened during the events of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith when Obi-Wan was sent to Utapau to apprehend or defeat General Grievous to end the Clone Wars once and for all.

After successfully defeating General Grievous, which was the signal the Jedi needed to make sure that Chancellor Palpatine gave up his emergency powers, Obi-Wan returned to Commander Cody and the other clones. In fact, Cody had Obi-Wan’s lightsaber, which he dropped while he was chasing Grievous.

Cody gave the Jedi his lightsaber back as Kenobi joined the battlefield. But that was when Palpatine initiated Order 66, which was a command that the clones were forced to obey due to the secret programming implanted into them when they were created. In that regard, as Obi-Wan mounted his varactyl to return to action, Commander Cody ordered one of the clones to fire on the Jedi, as he betrayed his longtime friend due to the programming in his head.

Unlike Commander Rex, who was able to find a way to remove the chip that was responsible for the secret programming that would compel the clones to obey Order 66, Cody was unable to bypass the programming as he didn’t hesitate to shoot down Kenobi, who we all know managed to survive the attack after crashing into the water.

What Happened To Commander Cody After Order 66?

One of the things that we know about the Star Wars Disney+ shows is the fact that they tend to do a good job of filling in holes that were left by the movies. Of course, we saw this in the fact that Captain Rex’s story was given light during the events of Star Wars: Rebels. There’s also the fact that, in Tales of the Jedi, we saw Master Yaddle’s own fate after people wondered about what happened to her.

Of course, the thing about Commander Cody is that he hasn’t been seen in any Star Wars project ever since the events of Order 66. He was supposed to appear in Star Wars: Rebels as a consultant for Grand Admiral Thrawn, but the idea was trashed. We know for a fact that he’s one of the clones that weren’t able to find a way to bypass the programming of Order 66 and was quite close to the Jedi. But he hasn’t been around since his last appearance during Order 66.

How Many Jedi Were There? Before and After Order 66

What we know is that, after the rise of the Empire, Commander Cody took part in a mission involving the Wookiees of Kashyyk, as he led some of the clone troopers in the enslavement of this powerful race of aliens. However, he hasn’t been mentioned ever since.

Fortunately, season 2 of The Bad Batch seeks to try to make sense of what happened to Commander Cody after the events of Order 66. In the trailer, we saw him contacting the Bad Batch as he asked for help from them.

As such, it is more than likely that season 2 of The Bad Batch will give more answers in relation to what happened to Commander Cody and what he has been up to after Order 66. We know that the likelihood of him still being loyal to the Empire is high, considering that he was a high-ranking clone that helped in the execution of Order 66. But it is also possible that he regretted listening to the Empire when he tried to kill his longtime friend in Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Considering that the Bad Batch is no longer with the Empire, it is possible that Cody contacted them because he also was no longer with the Empire. As such, it is possible that he had also acquired free will, just like most of the other clones that defected from the Empire after Order 66.

Is Commander Cody Still Alive?

Of course, considering that Commander Cody is set to make an appearance in season 2 of The Bad Batch, he is very much still alive. However, we aren’t sure what his fate is during the events of the Rebellion.

We do know that Rex and a few other clones were still alive during the events of the Rebellion, as they could also still be alive after that. But Commander Cody’s fate is still unknown. As such, there is a good chance that The Bad Batch will allow us to understand what happened to Commander Cody and why he didn’t join up with Rex and the other clones during the events of Rebels.
