Grimoires are magic objects that allow mages to develop their magical potential, distributed during the Grimoire Acceptance Ceremony. Each Grimoire has at least one leaf on the cover, with each leaf symbolizing a specific emotion. The Five-Leaf Grimoire actually represents despair and symbolizes the user’s deep despair and strong hatred, which is why they are so dangerous and powerful.

The Grimoires of Black Clover: Explained!
A book called the Grimoire is necessary for someone who uses magic to qualify as a magician. Even though just the names of two grimoires are known, each one is unique. Each year, in March, the young people of the Clover Kingdom who have reached the age of 15 are brought to a ceremony where they receive their grimoire.
These books can focus their readers’ magic on various spells. A grimoire tends to hover next to its user when in use and move with them. The proprietors of grimoires are selected by the grimoires themselves based on their magical prowess. The four-leaf Grimoire, for instance, selected Yuno because of Yuno’s strong spiritual, physical, and cerebral abilities, which match those of the four-leaf Grimoire.
Asta was forced to accept the terrible portion because he was the only one to receive anything other than the five-leaf grimoire, which is among the most mysterious grimoires on Earth. Each kingdom possesses grimoires that symbolize their kingdoms, Clover, Diamond, Heart, and Spade. The amount of leaves that the drawing of a clover has on its cover determines how the grimoires are categorized in the Clover Kingdom; these leaves might range from three to five, and each represents something:
- The first three leaves represent “sincerity,” “hope,” and “love”;
- The fourth leaf symbolizes “good fortune”;
- The fifth leaf symbolizes the “demon.”
Which is the strongest Grimoire in Black Clover?
As far as it is known at this moment, Asta’s Five-Leaft Clover Grimoire is the strongest Grimoire in the whole series. It is incredibly potent due to being a five-leaf Grimoire, and it enables Asta to access powerful demonic powers, thus making him exceptionally powerful. Asta received it during his battle against Revchi, and it used to belong – as a four-leaf Grimoire – to the elf Licht, before it was corrupted by the devil Zagred and inhabited by the devil Liebe. Since it is dirty, no one really knows that it is a Five-Leaf Clover Grimoire, and everyone treats it as a normal one.
Why is Asta’s Grimoire so dirty?
If you remember what Asta’s Grimoire looks like, you’ll know that it is very dirty and filthy, which makes it hard for people to recognize its true nature. If you’re wondering why that is, the reason is quite simple. Before Asta, the last user of the Grimoire lived 500 years ago, which means that the Grimoire had enough time to not only be tainted by Anti-Magic, whose effects are known, but also by the passing of time. So no, there is no mystery behind it, and the reason is quite straightforward.

The first one is Asta’s Anti-Magic Grimoire, whose real nature has already been revealed, and it is by far the most famous and, as it stands, the most powerful Five-Leaf Grimoire in the series. But, Zagred’s Kotodama Magic Grimoire has also been revealed as a Five-Leaf Clover Grimoire, the only other such Grimoire, aside from Asta’s. But this doesn’t surprise us since Zagred had a say in the creation of Asta’s Grimoire. These are the only two Five-Leaf Clover Grimoires in the series.
Who knows about the Five-Leaf Clover Grimoire?
As far as it is known, the only person who knows about the true nature of Asta’s Grimoire is Drouot, the master of the Grimoire Tower in Hage. He is an old guy and a supporting character in the series, but as a Tower master and being old, he is knowledgeable and knows a lot of information, so it’s not surprising that he knows about the Grimoire.
