Where & When to Watch Spy x Family: Is It on Crunchyroll, Funimation, Netlifx or Hulu?

Where to watch spy family on netflix

SPY×FAMILY is a Japanese manga and anime series that premiered in 2019, with the anime series debuting in 2022. The story follows a spy who has to “make a family” to execute a mission, not realizing that the girl he adopts as a daughter and the woman he agrees to be in a fake marriage with are a mind reader and an assassin, which causes trouble for him. The anime series is currently airing in Japan and globally and in this article, we are going to tell you where you can watch it.

The only place where you can currently watch SPY×FAMILY, aside from Japanese television, are Crunchyroll and Hulu. No major streaming service has the series at this moment, although some regions of Asia do have it on Netflix thanks to Muse Communication. As for Crunchyroll, the service will offer the first three episodes via the free-with-ads model, but if you want to see the remaining episodes, you’ll have to subscribe to Crunchyroll.

SPY×FAMILY is quickly becoming a global phenomenon and although the first season has only recently premiered, it has gained a lot of attention and has become a talking point among the otaku communities around the world. In this article, we are going to give you the ultimate guide for watching the anime series online.

Where to watch SPY×FAMILY?

As of April 2022, SPY×FAMILY is only available in a limited number of places, or, to be more precise, on just one streaming service – Crunchyroll. Crunchyroll will offer the full show with English and other subtitles, as the episodes come out in Japan (simulcast). Although Crunchyroll is now a fully-paid subscription service, it will allow users to stream the first three episodes of SPY×FAMILY for free, after which you’ll have to buy a subscription.

Sadly, the anime is not available for streaming on any other platform, unless you’re In some specific parts of the world.

Is SPY×FAMILY available on Netflix?

SPY×FAMILY is available on Netflix, but only in a small number of Asian countries, thanks to the license provided by Muse Communication. Netflix usually offers either big titles or its own co-productions for its subscribers, so it’s not strange that SPY×FAMILY is available, but it is a bit strange that it is not available worldwide.

It might be a little disappointing that a leading network like Netflix didn’t make SPY×FAMILY available for streaming in every country in the world. We assume that it has to do something with the licensing and distribution rights, but we cannot be sure that that is the actual reason.

As far as the future of the series is concerned, seeing how Netflix is working on expanding its anime roster, it is very possible that SPY×FAMILY will be made available in more countries, but that is something that we do not know at this moment, which means that we’ll just have to wait for a confirmation.

Netflix is doing a great job in providing its subscribers with great streaming content, but it does have some restrictions. So if you live in a country with geographic restrictions, you may not be able to watch SPY×FAMILY on Netflix even with a full subscription. And yes, in case you were wondering, you can check directly on Netflix to see if your country is geographically restricted.

If you live in a geographically restricted country, you will not be able to watch SPY×FAMILY unless you change your location.

Is SPY×FAMILY available on Crunchyroll?

All episodes of the SPY×FAMILY anime series will be available for streaming on Crunchyroll with English subtitles. Crunchyroll currently has all of the episodes that have aired as of the time of writing this article and we’ll just have to wait it out to see the remaining episodes.

So, if you want to watch all of the SPY×FAMILY anime episodes, Crunchyroll is your best option if you ask us.

Is SPY×FAMILY available on Disney+?

Disney+ does not offer any SPY×FAMILY content, which is, as you probably know by now, not surprising as Disney+ is generally very conservative when original content created by other studios is concerned, and anime is not just that, it is also direct competition for Disney, who takes pride in its original animated content. On top of that, this kind of content is definitely not compatible with Disney.

However, if you prefer Western animation and maybe some other anime series (although the offer is quite limited), Disney+ offers quite a few of them.

One of these animated series is The Simpsons, which is still very popular with 33 seasons as of December 2021. Some other similar shows, both animated and live-action, that might attract your attention include Gravity FallsThe Mighty Ducks, and the Star Wars series, including the very popular The Mandalorian.

Is SPY×FAMILY available on Funimation?

SPY×FAMILY is not available on Funimation either. The best dubbed-anime source in the US doesn’t offer this series to its subscribers, which is a bit surprising, but if Crunchyroll doesn’t have it, Funimation won’t have it either.

One major issue with Funimation, in general, is that it is not available around the world, so even if you could stream the complete SPY×FAMILY series, you’d only be able to access it from a limited number of countries. Luckily, these problems don’t apply to this show.

Is SPY×FAMILY available on Hulu?

SPY×FAMILY can be streamed via Hulu, with the dubbed version listed as upcoming, alongside the already available subbed version. Hulu is not one of the major players in the world of streaming, but nonetheless, it offers great content for its subscribers.

Hulu is a streaming service that primarily offers live-action shows and movies, but there’s also a lot of anime, and SPY×FAMILY is among the anime series offered on the service. The main issue is that Hulu is not available around the world so there are certain restrictions if you don’t live in the United States

The good thing, though, is that it seems that Hulu has all of the updated episodes in its library in subbed format. So, if you’re a Hulu subscriber, you’ll be able to watch the SPY×FAMILY anime series in full, but you have to know that Hulu is not available around the world.

Is SPY×FAMILY available on HBO Max?

SPY×FAMILY cannot be streamed on HBO Max either. Namely, the streaming service simply doesn’t have the show among its titles, so if you’re a subscriber and have been looking to see the show, we don’t have any good news for you.

But, if you actually do have a free trial or an ongoing subscription to HBO Max, you can also watch other great anime shows, some of which are true classics that need to be watched regardless of whether you’re a fan or not.

Luckily, HBO Max has a truly great anime library so fans will definitely find something for themselves if they want to explore other shows aside from SPY×FAMILY. Some other great anime on HBO Max include Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Death Note, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Re:ZERO.

Is SPY×FAMILY available on Amazon Prime?

SPY×FAMILY still isn’t available for streaming on Amazon Prime. This is relatively strange as Amazon Prime has a solid slate of anime on its service, but it seems that SPY×FAMILY isn’t on it at this moment. This, sadly, also includes Amazon’s non-Prime pay-per-view library, which means that you cannot rent or buy the individual SPY×FAMILY episodes as well.

Now, as we have said above, what surprised us the most is the fact that Amazon doesn’t even offer the anime episodes for purchase, as it does with a lot of other shows via its pay-per-view model (for example, One Piece or Black Clover). Such series cannot be streamed, but you can buy each episode individually and then own them, so you can watch them anytime you want.

One advantage of the rent or buy option on Amazon is the lack of restriction, either in time or location. Anywhere in the world, you can buy any available season or episode of a show, which is a good thing since some streaming services don’t offer their full slate for all countries. Once rented, you have only a limited amount of time to watch each episode for the same price, whereas with a purchased copy, you have unlimited time.

But, sadly, none of this applies to SPY×FAMILY, whether you’re an Amazon Prime member or not.

Where Can You Watch SPY×FAMILY for Free?

We all know by now that most streaming platforms offer their content for a certain subscription, or, in Amazon’s case, via a specific pay-per-view model. And while there are some completely legal streaming services that allow us to watch anime content for free, although not necessarily in an unlimited amount and for an unlimited time, their number is slowly decreasing with time. This is what happened to Crunchyroll.

Crunchyroll was well-known for giving its viewers the possibility to watch its content completely free of charge, the subbed version, but with ads. But, since late March 2022, Crunchyroll has removed, thus limiting free access to its content. Free viewing was not removed, as viewers will still be able to watch the first three episodes of new shows for free with ads, but even that is going to end at one point.

This, ultimately, means that you can only watch the first three episodes of SPY×FAMILY for free, and nothing else. As for the other streaming services, since they do not offer SPY×FAMILY in the first place, there is no need to discuss this issue in that aspect.

When are new SPY×FAMILY episodes coming out?

Since SPY×FAMILY is airing like a regular television series, and not as a streaming one, new episodes are released on a weekly basis and not in the form of a multiepisode batch. Now, we don’t know the whole release schedule for the series, especially if some delays do happen in the future, but as far as things stand now, a new episode is released once per week, on Saturdays.
