Who Is Bill Murray Playing in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania? Explained
Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is now behind us. Whatever you’re thinking about it, Marvel Studios seems adamant that they want to build solid ground for the future of the biggest movie franchise ever. The movie that will kick off Phase 5 and start building the stage for the next big MCU event is the third movie of the Ant-Man saga — Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which recently received its second official trailer.
One of the newcomers to the franchise in Quantumania is an acting veteran Bill Murray. We have seen the first look at him in a teaser trailer, and although he wasn’t shown in the second trailer which was recently released, the official synopsis of the movie confirmed who will Murray play in the upcoming MCU movie.
In Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Bill Murray will play Lord Krylar. This character could be unknown even to the most hardcore fans of Marvel Comics considering that he had only one appearance in the long history of Marvel Comics. The character had his debut in Incredible Hulk #156 in July 1972. He was killed off in that same issue so that marked his both first and last appearance in the Marvel canon.
Considering that Krylar doesn’t have some rich history in the source material, it’s safe to say that he won’t have some huge role in the movie and it’s pretty likely that his role in the movie won’t really follow the source material, especially because he was associated with Hulk in the comics.
In his one-time appearance in the comics, Krylar is introduced as a scientist on the microscopic planet called K’ai. He created a machine that can physically create someone’s deepest fear, and that ultimately resulted in creating another, out-of-control Hulk, which was Bruce Banner’s deepest fear.
The sad thing is that there’s absolutely nothing more to say about this character based on the source material, and considering that he was never even associated with Ant-Man, it’s hard to predict what could be his role in Quantumania. True, it could create some theories that Murray’s Krylar could meet Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk in the future of the franchise, but we don’t even know if Quantumania is only a one-time thing for Murray in the MCU.
We gotta give it to the writers because you must really be deep into the comic books to pull such a character from the bottom of the box and say “hey, let’s put him in the movie”, and then even cast one of the most known acting veterans such as Billy Murray to play it. Safe to say, if Marvel fans remember Krylar, they will remember him because he was played by Bill Murray.
Directed by Peyton Reed, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is set to be released on February 17, 2023.
