The entire franchise of Dungeons & Dragons has always been one that has lasted for decades, as there are a lot of different stories involving different characters in this fantasy lore. Of course, while D&D started as a tabletop game, it eventually became a larger entity composed of video games, television shows, and movies. The latest addition is Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, which has a memorable character in the form of Holga Kilgore. So, who is she?

Holga Kilgore is a human barbarian that acts as the muscle of the group led by Edgin Darvis. She was exiled from her barbarian tribe after falling in love with an outsider named Marlamin. She was the one who helped raise Kira, as she has been around ever since she was a baby.

While it might be true that Edgin was always supposed to be the main character of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Holga was one of the characters that added color to the storyline with her personality and strength. In that regard, she is one of the most important characters in the quest that Edgin and their other companions embarked on in the storyline of Honor Among Thieves.

Suppose there’s one thing that we know about Dungeons & Dragons. In that case, this franchise has always revolved around the adventurers that form part of a questing party, as these adventurers often grow together with the rest of the party members while embarking on a common quest. Of course, the same holds for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, a movie inspired by the classic D&D format.

Of course, because Honor Among Thieves follows the classic D&D format of different people going on an adventure together, unique characters form part of the dysfunctional questing party in this movie. One of the original members of this questing party is Holga Kilgore. So, who exactly is Holga in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves?

Holga was introduced quite early in the storyline as one of the main characters that go on quests together with the main character, Edgin Darvis. Her story was shown when Edgin told the backstory of how he and Holga ended up in prison during the early part of the movie.

Edgin’s story revolved around how he used to be a member of a group of secret spies called the Harpers, which worked for the common good. However, when his wife died due to one of the missions he undertook as a Harper, Edgin decided to forego his oath and was in the lowest part of his life while he was trying to raise Kira, his daughter, all on his own. That was when Holga entered the picture.

As Edgin said, Holga decided to live with him and Kira because she pitied the baby girl. She raised Kira as a foster mother even though the relationship between Holga and Edgin was purely platonic. Edgin said that he and Holga treat each other as brothers and sisters.

But before Holga started living with Edgin and Kira, she used to be a member of a barbarian tribe called the Elk. But because she fell in love with an outsider named Marlamin, she was exiled from her tribe. And when her relationship with Marlamin didn’t work out due to her still feeling sad that she was exiled, she eventually ended up living with Edgin and Kira.

Life was tough for the trio, as Edgin and Holga started living as petty thieves that stole from the rich. But while they did live as thieves, they both vowed never to hurt or kill anyone. Eventually, they teamed up with a rogue named Forge and a sorcerer named Simon. And because of her barbarian upbringing and history, Holga was the group’s strongest fighter and muscle.

However, things went wrong when her band of thieves accepted a job from a powerful sorcerer named Sofina. The group infiltrated Korinn’s Keep to steal some treasures and the Tablet of Reawakening, which Edgin wanted to use to bring his wife back from the dead. However, when the mission was on the verge of failing, Sofina used a time-stop magic that caught Edgin and Holga within its boundaries, as that was how they were both captured and locked up by the authorities for two years.

What Happens to Holga?

After escaping from prison, Holga and Edgin learned that Forge had become the new lord of Neverwinter. They decided to visit him in Castle Never, as that was when Forge revealed that he had been taking care of Kira the entire time and was able to find himself in the position of the lord of Neverwinter through Sofina’s help. Sofina was also an evil Red Wizard the entire time, as Forge revealed that they betrayed Holga and Edgin two years ago.

That was when Holga and Edgin were sent to be executed by Sofina, only for the lady barbarian to find interest in their executioner Blackwood’s axe, which was the work of Ghelryn Foehammer of Triboar. While questioning Blackwood about the axe, Holga was secretly prying a paving stone loose, as she used this as a weapon to defeat Blackwood and the other guards.

Holga and Edgin subsequently decided to get back at Forge, as they recruited Simon into the group and searched for a druid named Doric to help them in their quest. They eventually decided to return to Marlamin, who used to be Holga’s husband, so she could get the closer she had always wanted. She also got some of her things from Marlamin’s place, including a staff that Simon found out was the Hither-Thither Staff, a powerful relic capable of opening two portals connected.

The questing party also went to find a paladin named Xenk, who had the Helmet of Disjunction, the only item they could use to open Forge’s magical vault of treasures. And they only found out about Xenk and the Helmet of Disjunction after digging up the graves of some of Holga’s ancestors, who participated in a historical battle that involved the helm itself and using Simon’s magic to temporarily reanimate them.

After acquiring the Helmet of Disjunction, the party returned to Neverwinter, where they hatched a plan that should have gotten them inside the vault. However, the problem was that Forge and Sofina were one step ahead of them. They were captured and forced to participate in the High Sun Games, a tournament involving numerous adventurers and monsters.

Thanks to their teamwork, the questing party survived the High Sun Games and confronted Forge, who was on his way to escape Neverwinter with Kira. However, he used Kira as a hostage, as Holga used her strength to throw a potato that nearly knocked Forge out. Through this, they could defeat Forge and use his boat to escape.

But when they learned that Sofina was about to turn the entire city into undead soldiers, Holga, and the others returned to Neverwinter to defeat the evil Red Wizard. While they were successful in doing so, Holga got stabbed by a Red Wizard’s blade, which was supposedly fatal. Holga died in the arms of Edgin and Kira, both her family members, after she was exiled from her tribe.

Realizing that Holga was the one that helped raise Kira for years, Edgin used the Tablet of Reawakening to revive Holga instead of his wife. As such, Holga and the other members of the questing party became heroes of Neverwinter, as they could live prosperous lives as a family.
