Will There Be a Season 2 of Tales of the Jedi? Release Date, Cast, Trailer & More
Disney+ is buzzing with Star Wars. After a fairly successful Obi-Wan Kenobi series, nice feedback on The Book of Boba Fett, and a modest premiere of Andor, the Star Wars lore on Disney+ is expanding with animated series like the new season of Star Wars: The Bad Batch, or Tales of the Jedi – an anthology series of shorts exploring lives of old fan-favorite characters.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch – which is a spin-off series of the fan-favorite Star Wars: Clone Wars – will have its Season 2 premiere on January 4, 2023, with a two-episode premiere. So, what about the animated anthology shorts Tales of the Jedi? Will there be a Season 2? Here’s everything we know.
Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi Season 2 Release Date
Season 1 of Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi hasn’t even hit the Disney+ platform yet, so it’s hard to speculate if Season 2 will even happen, let alone when the release date might be.
However, we know that season one was announced at the D23 Expo in Anaheim this September – the same time when The Bad Batch Season 2 release date was announced. Tales of the Jedi Season 1 will premiere on October 26, 2022 (yes, THAT soon!). All six short episodes will drop on the same day.
As for a potential Season 2, it will likely depend on the success of Season 1 and the overall interest in the short animated anthology format. If the show gets renewed for Season 2, we can likely expect it in the second half of 2023 or early 2024.
Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi Season 2 Cast
Again, we can’t exactly say who the cast members for Tales of the Jedi Season 2 will be because it hasn’t even been announced officially yet. Even if it was, we’re talking about an anthology series, and every episode can revolve around a different character, so we literally have no idea who will show up and when.
Still, it’s important to note that the cast of Season 1 is absolutely interesting and will certainly wake up some nostalgia for die-hard, old-school, prequel trilogy fans.
For instance, Mace Windu will return to the small screen, although he’ll be voiced by Terrence C. Carson, not Samuel L. Jackson. Matt Lanter will voice Darth Vader, whereas James Arnold Taylor will bring Obi-Wan Kenobi to life in this particular adaptation.
We’ll also see – or hear – Ashley Eckstein portray Ahsoka Tano, and Ian McDiarmid gives his voice to Sheev Palpatine, but the icing on the cake is Mr. Liam Neeson returning to give his voice to his old character from the prequel trilogy, Qui-Gon Jinn, while his son, Micheal Richardson, will voice the younger version of Qui-Gon.
It’ll be interesting to see if any of these cast members return for Season 2, provided the platform chooses to develop it. Still, there are countless characters that Tale of the Jedi can go over once again and give us a better insight into their lives, especially considering that each episode happens in the same universe, but the stories are not necessarily connected.
Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi Season 2 Trailer
When Season 2 is announced and the trailer is available, I will be the first to share it with you. In the meantime, however, you can watch the trailer for Season 1 below to get a grasp on what to expect out of the animated shorts series.
Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi Season 2 Plot
To get you ready for what Season 2 of Tales of the Jedi might look like, we ought to take a look at Season 1 of the show. Heck, we still don’t know half of what will be going on in the six shorts hitting the platform this late October. We do have some awesome info we can gather from the trailer and the data provided by the showrunners.
The show will showcase animated shorts featuring Jedi characters from the prequel era. That includes the likes of a young Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon Jinn, Mace Windu, and Ahsoka Tano (among confirmed characters), but also, potentially, the likes of Master Yoda, Anakin Skywalker, and other super important Star Wars characters.
At least one episode will explore the background and origins of Anakin Skywalker’s padawan, Ahsoka Tano, while another episode will focus on Count Dooku (portrayed in the movies by the legendary late Christopher Lee) and his slow fall, betrayal, and descent to the Dark Side.
It could, however, be three episodes focusing on Ahsoka and three on Count Dooku, with all other characters being included in those two plots. There’s really a lot to unpack there, and I can’t wait to see what else they have in store, especially if there will be a Season 2.
Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi Season 2 Extra Info & Trivia
Another reason why I find Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi so interesting is the base in which it operates and the attention to detail they’ve already showcased. For instance, in the trailer for Season 1, you can see a young Count Dooku clearly – and you can see how he’s animated to look like Sir Christopher Lee when he was a young fellow.
Also, many die-hard Star Wars fans instantly noticed that the show shares the same title with a comic book series published by Dark Horse, which is a part of the Star Wars Legends. Naturally, we thought that Tales of the Jedi would revolve around the Old Republic, considering that the comic book series from the mid-nineties revolved around that period of galactic history.
However, the Tales of the Jedi series will be a canon series, and the only thing in common with the comic book series is the name – the show will focus on the prequel era instead. If we’re being honest, the comics were insanely popular and stemmed from numerous spin-offs, including one of the most popular Star Wars game series ever, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
If the show is even remotely as popular, Disney+ will rejoice.
