Wookieepedia Editors Face Death Threats After Changing Ki-Adi-Mundi’s Birthdate to Align with ‘The Acolyte’

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ released its 4th episode this week, and reactions were mostly negative. After two weeks of mixed reviews, the show now faces another controversy related to canon.

In episode 4, Ki-Adi-Mundi, a character from ‘The Phantom Menace,’ appears in a scene. Since Ki-Adi-Mundi was about 60 years old during ‘The Phantom Menace,’ he should not have been alive during the events of ‘The Acolyte,’ which took place around 100 years earlier.

Mundi’s age was never confirmed in the new canon, and many written sources were decanonized after Disney bought the Star Wars franchise. When The Walt Disney Company acquired Lucasfilm in 2012, the Expanded Universe was rebranded as “Legends.” “Canon” then referred to George Lucas’ six movies, the seasons of “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” he developed, and all movies, TV series, novels, comics, toys, and video games created by Lucasfilm after the acquisition, including the Sequel Trilogy.

So what does Wookieepedia have to do with this? The editors of the popular Star Wars resource were caught changing Ki-Adi-Mundi’s personal information to better fit with what we’ve seen in ‘The Acolyte.’ Here’s a useful thread of all the changes made to his page.

The fandom quickly turned on Wookieepedia, with editors even receiving death threats against themselves and their pets.

Hashtag Wookieepedia is still trending on X, with a full-blown war taking place. This incident has taught us three things today. First, some people take their hobbies and Disney products way too seriously. Second, if you’re making death threats over this, you should probably take a break from the internet for a few months. Third, fan-sourced “Wikipedias” are never a reliable source of information, as changes can happen without your knowledge.

Editors on fan-made sites are biased, just like the rest of us, so there’s no truly impartial way to handle the issue of Mundi’s age. You either believe Wookieepedia did nothing wrong or think they support retcons.
