Zack Snyder Shares Planned Ending for Henry Cavill’s Superman
The planned ‘Superman’ trilogy in the DCEU got canceled after ‘Black Adam’ came out. In a post-credit scene, they teased what would happen next for Superman, but then they said they were rebooting the whole cinematic universe and getting a new actor for Superman, which cut Cavill’s story short.
Then James Gunn started his own universe called DCU, and David Corenswet was cast as a younger Superman, who’s got his own story going on.
Fans were understandably upset, especially because many of them liked Cavill’s darker and brooding Superman, even though his performance in ‘Man of Steel’ got mixed reviews at best. Now, in a recent interview with GQ, Zack Snyder has finally disclosed how Superman’s story would’ve wrapped up in his DCEU.
He was going to have to succumb to the Anti-life, be destroyed, turn the clock back, and then get his chance for this battle against Darkseid. If you will… that would have finished his trilogy of becoming this guardian, and sort of, return him to his humanity.
Even though there’s still a chance for this story to be told as part of the ‘Elseworlds’ series, like Pattinson’s Batman, Cavill has moved on to other projects, as has Snyder.
Snyder’s portrayal of the character stirred up a lot of controversy, especially regarding Cavill’s decision to kill Zod. Snyder recently explained that Superman’s character lacks authenticity if he’s unable to face tough choices, emphasizing the importance of highlighting his humanity. It seems the entire Superman story arc would focus on these challenging decisions and revealing his human side. He also made a similar observation about Batman’s character.
