How Strong Is Snake? Compared to Other Vinland Saga Characters

There are a lot of great fighters in the world of Vinland Saga, and all of them seem to be quite unique in their specialties and strengths. While we know that the Slave or Farmland arc isn’t the most action-packed storyline in Vinland Saga, it still has one of the best fighters in the anime and manga. We are talking about Snake, who is so respected by his men that they tremble the moment they hear his voice in episode 3 of season 2. So, just how strong is Snake in Vinland Saga?

Snake is one of the strongest characters in Vinland and is one of the disciples of the legendary Iron Fist Ketil. In that regard, his voice alone was enough to scare his own men off, as he is simply that strong. It is said that he is physically stronger than Askeladd and is almost as fast as Thorfinn.

The fact that Snake can match Thorfinn’s speed while having strength that’s on par or even greater than Askeladd means that he is an incredibly gifted fighter. He may not be the same kind of physical beast that Thorkell is, but he can defeat almost anyone else due to his mobility and technique. So, with that said, let’s look at how strong Snake is.

How Strong Is Snake?

While we do know that Thorfinn is now weary from the many battles he fought as a child and is now looking to find a way to atone for his sins when he lived a life of vengeance, it is equally true that there are still a lot of strong fighters out there in Vinland Saga. This is despite the fact that the Slave arc is not the most action-packed part of the storyline. So, even if this arc doesn’t have a lot of fights, there is still someone whose abilities as a fighter are so impressive that he is one of the strongest characters we’ve seen so far.

We are talking about Snake, who was introduced in episode 3 of season 2 of Vinland Saga as one of the mercenaries that are living on Ketil’s farm. In fact, Snake is the leader of the rowdy mercenary band that lives on the farm. We saw him as a lazy mercenary that has a habit of waking up late and leaving most of the jobs on the farm to his men. But when it comes to his battle prowess, no other person on the farm comes close to him. So, just how strong is Snake?

Snake is so strong that his voice alone is enough to actually scare Fox and the other mercenaries that were bullying Thorfinn and Einar. Despite the fact that these mercenaries were so rowdy and weren’t even listening to what Einar and Olmar were saying, one word from Snake was already more than enough for them to stop what they were doing. In that regard, his men know for a fact that he is a feared fighter that they shouldn’t anger.

Of course, we are yet to see Snake in action in Vinland Saga, but it is obvious that he is actually incredibly strong due to the fact that he is the leader of a band of mercenaries on Ketil’s farm. Fox himself was pretty strong as he was able to knock Olmar down despite the fact that he was drunk at that time. And Fox wasn’t even afraid of Thorfinn, although he wasn’t aware of how strong Thorfinn was.

But the fact that Fox feared Snake and was scared for his life when the mercenary boss was angry is one of the reasons to believe that Snake is far stronger than Fox or any other mercenary under his command. And because of his strength, Ketil relies on him heavily when it comes to protecting the farm.

It was also mentioned that Snake was a disciple of one of the strongest warriors in existence. We are talking about Iron Fist Ketil, whose true identity remains a mystery but was originally believed to be the very same Ketil that Snake works for. However, despite the fact that Snake knows that Ketil isn’t Iron Fist Ketil, he still works for him because the pay is good and because he knows that his sword is put to good use while he is on the farm.

How Does Snake Compare To Other Vinland Saga Characters?

To truly tell just how strong Snake is, it should be interesting to compare him to the other strong characters that are in the Vinland Saga storyline.

Askeladd

While Askeladd is already dead and is never able to face Snake in a battle, the one thing that we know is that Thorfinn was able to compare their strengths well enough in their battle. In that regard, Snake was described to be just as strong or even stronger than Askeladd, who was strong enough to slice an entire man in half with one hand.

However, despite the fact that Snake is pretty strong, the one thing that Thorfinn also noticed was that he is a very nimble fighter that can move in a manner that is almost as fast and as agile as Thorfinn. That means that he has a good combination of strength, speed, and technique. On the other hand, Askeladd was more of a brutish fighter that combined his strength with his wits.

Thorfinn

Thorfinn and Snake only faced each other once in a battle that wasn’t even that serious because all that Thorfinn wanted to do was to protect Arnheid and her husband. Of course, Thorfinn also saw Snake as a friend. That was the reason why he didn’t even battle him at his best state.

Despite that, Thorfinn was quick to notice just how strong Snake was as he was able to compare him to Askeladd’s own strength. But the most surprising part about Snake’s fighting abilities is his speed. Thorfinn is one of the fastest characters in the storyline, but Snake was able to match his speed and agility.

Thorkell

With Thors dead, the title of the strongest warrior in the Vinland Saga goes to Thorkell. However, we won’t see Thorkell fighting Snake because of how different their paths are. But we can still compare how strong Snake is when we look at the giant man known as Thorkell, who is a physical freak due to his 7’7” frame.

Thorkell is a monstrous dude that could kill anyone with a single strike of his weapon due to his size. However, there is a good chance that Snake can give him a hard time because Thorkell tends to struggle against faster and nimbler opponents. That was the reason why Thorfinn was able to fight Thorkell on par. So, if a young Thorfinn gave Thorkell a hard time, Snake would also do well against him.\
