Does Franky have a Devil Fruit?
Franky, actually “Cutty” Framm is a cyborg and the ship’s carpenter for the Straw Hat Gang after they rescued him and Robin from the Enies Lobby. He dreams of building a ship that will take him around the world. This ship is said to be the Straw Hat Gang’s new ship, which the gang received as a thank you. For the dream ship to be able to do this, however, he accepted Luffy’s offer to join.
He is currently an indispensable member of Luffy’s crew on their adventures in the world of pirates. But does Franky have a Devil Fruit? He is certainly powerful enough and could be a Devil Fruit user, but we can confirm to you that he does not have a Devil Fruit in One Piece.
The fact that Franky has not eaten a Devil Fruit makes him part of a few relevant characters who have achieved fame and popularity in the world of pirates without having eaten a Devil Fruit. We know that Franky is one of the physically strongest characters in the whole series, and over time, he has managed to become a formidable foe, as recent events have shown. This is a direct result of his training and work, especially his body modifications, which is why it is even better.
As for the future, we highly doubt that Oda will have Franky eat a Devil Fruit. It wouldn’t make much sense from a development point of view, and it’s kind of too late now. It might happen accidentally, but we don’t think Oda will go there. It just wouldn’t make much sense. Plus, Oda has already told us what Franky’s Devil Fruit would be, implying that it will actually never happen.

Namely, while Franky hasn’t really consumed a Devil Fruit, author Eiichiro Oda has revealed what would’ve happened in the SBS (a fan Q&A section) of Volume 98 had Franky consumed a Devil Fruit. Here is the whole transcript:
D: If Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, and Franky were to become ability users, then what kind of fruit do you think they would have eaten? -P.N. 420-land
O: I see, that’s quite a fun question~. Hmmm… what I would like to see is… Zoro: Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu (Fish Fish Fruit, Mythical Type Model: Seiryuu) Nami: Goro Goro no Mi (Rumble Rumble Fruit) (lightning human) Usopp: Poke Poke no Mi (Pocket Pocket Fruit) (infinite pockets in one’s body) Sanji: Sui Sui no Mi (Swim Swim Fruit) Franky: Buki Buki no Mi (Arms Arms Fruit)
Zoro: I’d want the sword to turn into a dragon rather than Zoro. I think that would be insanely cool. Nami: A true weather lady, now no one can stop her anymore (apart from Luffy). Usopp: The perfect pocket for someone like Usopp who always has something up his sleeve. Sanji: It allows one to slip through walls or swim on the ground. If given to Sanji, it would become quite the nasty ability. Franky: Can’t get any better than this for an ability for Franky.
What are Franky’s powers and abilities?
Now that we have explained that the source of Franky’s powers is not a Devil Fruit, it would be only fair to tell you a bit about his powers and abilities in the remainder of this article. In terms of sheer physical strength, Franky is one of the most powerful members of the crew: years spent wrecking ships, and hunting pirates have developed his formidable strength. Even when he ran out of cola, he managed to halt an elephant’s charge, lift it by its trunk and crash it to the ground, leaving no escape. In his first fight with the CP9, Franky managed to outrun Blueno’s Tekkai and did the same with Fukuro’s, keeping pace with the enemy’s Soru and finally managing to beat it.
Even when he faced Luffy at Water Seven, he managed to hold his own for a while before their duel was interrupted by the carpenters of the Galley-La company. He also has exceptional strength. In fact, he always got back on his feet, despite being brutally defeated twice in a few hours by Oars, having Luffy’s shadow in his body. At the end of the fight, he survived a shot and an air bomb included, hurled by Bartholomew Kuma, in addition to the previous wounds.
He also took thirty consecutive suplexes from Senor Pink, despite not trying to defend himself, and one in particular that caused him to fall from the top of a tower onto a stone road, getting up and continuing to hit until he defeated the opponent. Recovering shortly after, he pushed Smile’s factory, aided by the dwarves, against Doflamingo’s birdcage to slow it down, although he was badly injured. His fighting style is mainly based on the use of weapons installed on his body and on boxing, even if he has no qualms about playing dirty.
But, what is his most important trait is the fact that Franky is a human converted into a cyborg: his body, in fact, possesses numerous artificial objects. The author of these changes is Franky himself, who managed to work on the front of his body but not on the back, which is, therefore, vulnerable and is his weak point. Inside his body are numerous firearms and melee weapons. He can also breathe fire and nails. All of this is cola-fueled, and the availability of cola is decisive for how powerful of blows Franky can deliver.
Other beverages can be used as fuel but provide limited efficiency. His personality is also affected by the type of drink he has stored in the fridge that he has instead of his stomach. The first modifications he made on his body made him one of his creations himself, which is why he tattooed the writing BF-36 on his shoulders, indicating that it is the thirty-sixth of his Battle Frankies. During the two years he spent separated from his comrades, Franky rebuilt his body drastically. The fact that Franky spent two years in one of Vegapunk’s old labs suggests that the improvements are substantial. In addition to this great fortune, Franky had two years to work on his new body.
For this reason, he decided to redesign himself to create the BF-37. However, as before, his back remains unchanged, which is his weak point. Despite being a self-propelled weapon, Franky also carries some items with him that he believes may be useful. In addition to the tools necessary for his role as a carpenter, he has nunchucks and firearms. He also has good skill in handling melee weapons: against Tararan, he built huge nunchucks by fitting a normal pair into two huge concrete columns and used them effortlessly.
