What is the story of Murder Mystery 2?
After the first movie’s events, Nick and Audrey quit their day jobs and started working as private detectives. The movie immediately shows us how that business isn’t going well, but luckily for them, they will be invited to the wedding of their friend Maharajah at the paradise island, which will help them relax, rest from work, and ultimately, bring a new case to their doorstep.
During the night party, shortly after Nick and Audrey’s arrival, Maharajah’s Mr. Lou is killed, which is only a distraction for the unknown kidnappers to take Maharajah. The kidnappers escape with him, but Nick and Audrey realize that there is an accomplice who is still on the island. Everyone is suspect.
The next day, a former MI6 hostage negotiator, now specialized in high-profile cases, arrives on the island to solve the case. He doesn’t want Nick and Audrey to intervene as he also sees them as suspects, but the kidnapper calls and insists that he’ll talk only to Nick. The negotiator is asking for Nick and Audrey to deliver a $70 million ransom in Paris.

Nick, Audrey, Miller, and everyone else from the party go to Paris to save Maharajah. Miller prepares them for the exchange, which doesn’t go according to plan; Miller gets blown up, Nick and Audrey are framed for the kidnapping, and an unknown individual steals the money in a truck. Following the truck’s license plate with the help of their old friend, inspector Delacroix, Nick and Audrey arrive at the mansion, where they find Countess Sekou and Imani, who they met earlier at the party.
Although they have money, it turns out they’re not kidnappers. Sekou double-crosses Imani and shoots her, but Imani shoots her back before she dies. With both of them dead, Nick and Audrey take the money and call the group from the party. Knowing one of them is a kidnapper, they say that they will meet with everyone at the Eiffel Tower, and whoever the kidnapper is needed to bring Maharajah if they want the money.
Everyone gathers at the restaurant, and Nick and Audrey are trying to find out who the kidnapper is. Maharajah arrives with a bomb on his vest, and it soon turns out that the kidnapper was Miller all along, who faked his death in a car explosion during the first exchange. After a fight at the top of the tower, Miller is killed after being thrown from the tower into helicopter blades, and the money is taken by the wind all over Paris.
The bomb is successfully taken off the Maharajah, and just when everyone thinks it’s over, it turns out that the whole thing was plotted by Maharajah’s sister Saira. Saira takes the gun and fires it, but Claudette knocks her down. In the end, Saira is arrested, and Nick and Audrey are given a bag of ten million dollars as a prize so they can have the honeymoon they always dreamed of.
Nick and Audrey take the helicopter and fly away on the trip of their dreams. However, the helicopter pilot pulls the gun, takes their bag of money, and jumps from a flying helicopter. The movie ends with Nick and Audrey alone in a flying helicopter. They probably don’t know how to land.

Murder Mystery 2 Ending Explained
The movie’s credits start in medias res, while Nick and Audrey are in a flying helicopter with no pilot, no money, and absolutely no idea what to do. Before he jumped with the money, the pilot said, “see you never”, and considering that the movie ended on this sort of cliffhanger, we can bet that the writers left the door open for a threequel.
A potential third movie would start at the same point as the sequel ended. Nick and Audrey would definitely find a way to land a helicopter or survive in some other, more crazy way. The plot of a third movie would most likely involve a brand new case for them to solve, and finding who that pilot who robbed is would likely also be one of the movie’s storylines.
Murder Mystery 3 hasn’t been officially confirmed by Netflix yet, but the writers of the sequel have left the door open. So, it only matters if the sequel achieves a good result on Netflix’s streaming charts to convince Netflix to throw money into one more movie.
Generally, the original Murder Mystery was a simple action comedy that didn’t look like it needed a sequel at all. But since we got it now, you know there’s nothing much to be expected. This movie is basically the same, just with a new case and some new characters, and it takes place in new, visually beautiful locations.
Murder Mystery is a kind of generic movie you’d watch when it’s raining outside, and you have absolutely nothing else on your watchlist. It remains to be seen if the movie will have a viewership high enough for Netflix to make one more movie.
Both Murder Mystery movies are now streaming on Netflix.
