The characters we’ve seen in Oda’s One Piece are truly amazing. They are diverse, they are intriguing, and they are – in most cases – loved by fans. On top of that, they are – generally – very well-written characters whose stories are always fun to explore. And that is what we are going to do in this article. Namely, One Piece fans will know that Komurasaki is a very important character in the Wano Country Arc, especially because of her connection to Orochi, but who is actually behind the mask? Is it a new character or an old one? In this article, we will tell you who Komurasaki really is and whether she is Oden’s daughter, Kozuki Hiyori.

Yes, Komurasaki is actually Kozuki Hiyori, the daughter of Kozuki Oden. She disguised herself as a courtesan known as Komurasaki to get closer to Kurozumi Orochi, whom she detested because he played a role in her parents’ deaths. She tricked him into loving her and would later get her revenge, as she witnessed Orochi die at the flames of Kazenbo.

The rest of this article is going to be about Komurasaki and her true identity, as well as her relationship with Orochi in One Piece. We are going to introduce you to their shared story, how it developed, and how it ended, in fire and chaos, just as Orochi deserved it. This article will contain some spoilers, so if you’re not fully up-to-date with everything, you have been warned.

Hiyori survived the murder of her family

Hiyori was born 26 years before the story starts aboard Moby Dick. In the same year, with Roger’s father joining the Pirates, her family moved to Oro Jackson. Two years after her, her mother fell ill just near Wano, and by order of the ship’s doctor, she was prevented from continuing the journey. For this reason, her two sons also remained with her, and on her island, Dog-storm and Cat-viper remained. Here Hiyori met the other servants of her father, who had been waiting for her return for years. However, the latter resumed the journey with the crew and returned only the following year.

Her father began to publicly humiliate himself by dancing almost naked in front of the shogun’s palace once a week, which is why the inhabitants began to speak ill of him. One day, seeing her sad, Oden asked her what was wrong, so she asked him if he was really calm given her rumors about her; her father replied that she was because she could count on her family, so Hiyori replied that she would always stay with him.

Eighteen years before the start of the narrative, Yasuie and his men went to Kuri Castle to protect the family of Oden, who had gone with his nine retainers to face the enemy. However, the ten samurai were defeated and captured by Kaido’s crew and then sentenced to death. Meanwhile, unaware of what had happened, Hiyori made origami to give to her father when she returned. Her mother visited her father while he was imprisoned, who gave her the Ame no Habakiri for Momonosuke and the Enma for Hiyori. The woman then gave her swords to Tenguyama Hitetsu for her to keep. Hiyori and her brother are close to their mother.

Kurozumi Orochi and Kaido had Oden executed, while the emperor’s crew burned down Kuri’s castle, with Hiyori, Momonosuke, and Toki trapped inside. When some servants reached them, her mother said that she would send them to the future together with Momonosuke, saying she was convinced that twenty years from then, the Kozuki family would be resurrected. Hiyori witnessed the refusal of her brother, who wanted her and her mother to go with them too, but was later persuaded by Kin’emon.

Toki then sent the latter, Momonosuke, Kanjuro, Kikunojo, and Raizo, to the future. Hiyori instead managed to survive the castle fire thanks to Kawamatsu, who dug a tunnel to a river and took care of her, giving up her food to feed her and trying to cheer her up despite her mourning. Seven years later, however, she left a note to her fishman telling him that she was safe and walked away from her, later running into some courtesans who took her to Kyoshiro. The latter revealed to her that he was actually Denjiro, while her little girl told him that she had separated from Kawamatsu, who had rescued her.

In order to protect her, Denjiro instructed her to go by the name “Komurasaki” and instructed her not to divulge anything he had discovered about her. Then he turned her into the most well-known oiran in Wano. Years later, when she was being held captive by Orochi, she persuaded some criminals to give her all of their money in exchange for her release. Still, she then gave it to Denjiro to give to the needy, devastating those individuals. In case Komurasaki needed to be removed from Orochi, the samurai also described her plan to “kill” her and instructed her to hide her blood under her kimono each day.

She would later avenge them by contributing to Orochi’s downfall

Komurasaki would, of course, come to the attention of Kurozumi Orochi. The two hadn’t known each other before, but the two had always wanted to meet since they had heard about each other. The Shogun has fallen under her spell. Orochi, of course, did not know who Komurasaki was as she hid her true identity with her mask. Orochi originally used to be in love with Komurasaki and wished to make the woman his wife.

However, the shogun became enraged when Komuraski smacked Orochi across the face after he attacked Toko for a trivial cause. Because of her attractiveness, Orochi allowed her to plead for her forgiveness, but she refused, which caused him to lose his cool and refuse to make her his wife going forward. He became much more enraged, though, when Kyoshiro decided to kill her without his consent. Naturally, he was unaware that Kyoshiro never slew Komurasaki, but despite their altercation, he really lamented her “death.”

Much later, after Kanjuro’s passing and possibly during Kazenbo’s blazing rampage on Onigashima, Orochi heard the sound of a shamisen, the instrument that Komurasaki played so expertly. Komurasaki would not appear in front of Orochi for a long time. He was immediately cheered up by this and crept toward the sound in the thick of the mayhem and damage.

He had no idea who the player was, but when he recognized Komurasaki, he was overjoyed and began crying. So, after learning that Komurasaki never passed away, Orochi was delighted and relieved; Komurasaki smiled at him when he first approached her and began playing his favorite song, “Moon Princess,” on the shamisen. She planted a Seastone on him while he was preoccupied with her music, preventing him from using his Devil Fruit powers. But due to his own actions, Orochi quickly found himself buried behind a mountain of debris.

Komurasaki finally removed her mask before him, exposing her true name as Kozuki Hiyori, and said coldly that she had never loved him when he was buried beneath that heap of wreckage. She confessed that she was Kozuki Oden’s daughter, which infuriated Orochi, who then said he would kill her. The Seastone, which allowed Orochi to change but would soon fall down, was the only thing that could have spared her life when the love vanished. However, he was halted in that form by Denjiro, who gave him the last head cut and left him to perish.

Orochi ordered the small painting to burn Hiyori at that very moment when Kazenbo would come, even though he was about to vanish himself. However, Kazebo chose to seek solace with his master instead, accidentally setting him on fire. Hiyori got to see Orochi’s death after Kazenbo passed away. Although she said she tried to kill him personally in the past, she did see his death in front of her.
