Oden vs. Kaido: Who Won the Fight (& Is He Really Stronger?)
One Piece is an anime that certainly has its fair share of strong and powerful characters. Kaido of the Beasts is one of those characters, as he is considered to be one of the strongest characters in the whole series. Although his role is smaller since his defeat to Luffy in Wano Country, he is still a formidable character and is great for comparisons. In this article, we are going to go back to the fight he had with Kozuki Oden to tell you who won that fight and whether the winner of the fight is really the stronger fighter.
And while Kaido won the fight against Oden, it was due to a trick, as Oden was close to defeating the Emperor. Still, it seems that this was a deliberate plot element, as everything we know about Kaido through his fights with Luffy points to the Emperor being stronger than Kozuki Oden, so we still have Kaido as the stronger one, despite Oden almost defeating him.
The rest of this article will further elaborate on the above-given answer, as we are going to compare Kozuki Oden and Kaido in more detail. Through several categories, you are going to see who the stronger of the two is and why our answer is like it is, i.e., why Kaido would, according to our analysis, be able to defeat Kozuki Oden.
Physical powers
Oden was very powerful even from a young age, learning to hunt when he was just a child and even defeating his enemies from a young age. His physical abilities were such that his mere stay in Shimotsuki Yasuie’s quarters caused him to destroy his room in such a way that he seemed to be the cause of a natural disaster in the words of the daimyo who attended him.
Oden possessed enough strength to be able to hold on to the Moby Dick alone with a chain for three full days despite several simultaneous attacks from giant aquatic animals and collisions with icebergs, even while he slept. He again showed his great strength by being able to hold a large board for an hour in which his nine vassals were placed to save them from being executed, and then propelled them out of the pot to escape, all while being boiled in oil. at seven hundred degrees.
His strength also gave him great movement capabilities, being able to jump incredible distances and run at great speed. Oden’s resistance was also incredibly high, being able to withstand without real problems the conditions in which he found himself tied to Moby Dick only to be cured of it a day later, a task that his future wife classified as “something superhuman”.
His stamina was such that he was able to survive more than a whole hour in boiling oil at such a temperature that he could kill a person in a few seconds. His resistance also allowed him to be able to fight with dozens of opponents at the same time, being able to endure combat for an entire night. His resilience is also shown when he was able to withstand a grenade blast like it was nothing.
Due to his muscle mass, Kaido has enormous physical strength. He managed to capsize nine giant prison ships. Kaido is powerful enough that his single scream caused visible damage to the area around him. One of Kaido’s main strengths is his inability to die; indeed, he suffered seven defeats, was captured by the Navy or enemies eighteen times, was tortured over a thousand times and finally, was sentenced to death forty times. However, no execution, whatever it was, worked.
Kaido also jumped 10,000 meters out of the sky onto the ground, creating a massive shockwave strong enough to sink a nearby ship, and only emerged with a headache; suicide has become a hobby for him. Kaido is as powerful as Charlotte Linlin, being able to fight on equal footing during their fight; like Shanks and Edward Newgate, Kaido and Big Mom were able to split the sky in half after just one hit. So far, no one has been able to stand up to Big Mom, which is highly indicative of Kaido’s power.
It is quite unclear where Oden stands in comparison to Kaido, mainly because Oden proved to be a match for the Emperor when they fought. Still, if we compare Kaido’s abilities from his fights with Luffy, we think that he is a bit stronger than Oden.
Points: Oden 0, Kaido 1
Devil Fruit
Kozuki oden is a very powerful character. He is known as one of the most powerful characters in the series and one of the series’ best swordsmen; he is, by all means, one of the best, alongside Shanks and Mihawk. Now, Oden’s powers and feats definitely merit a conclusion that he has consumed a Devil Fruit, but is that really true? It’s not – namely, Kozuki Oden has never eaten a Devil Fruit.
This makes Oden one of a very small number of characters (the most notable other ones being Shanks and Zoro) who are extremely powerful, but have not actually consumed a Devil Fruit; most of the other powerful characters have to thank their Devil Fruits for their individual reputations.
Kaido ate the Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu, a Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit that allows him to transform into an oriental dragon, in the same way as Momonosuke, the main difference being that Kaido has a gigantic size in dragon form and appears to be in control of his transformations.
He cannot, however, maintain this appearance if he takes too many powerful blows to keep up like the ones Luffy gave him. He is also able to cause lightning by roaring loud enough. Kaido was also shown to be able to lift the entire island of Onigashima and seemed capable of moving it all the way to the Flower Capital.
Ultimately, Kaido simply had to win in this category. The emperor not only has a Devil Fruit, but also one of the more powerful ones, whereas Oden never ate one in his life. It is important to state that Oden was still a match for Kaido despite this, but Kaido has to win the point in this category.

Haki
Oden was capable of using all three types of Haki. Oden could use Kenbunshoku Haki, but its level of use is unknown. At the age of eighteen, he was already masterful in the use of Busoshoku Haki, known in Wano Country as Ryuo, as he could imbue it into his two swords (Ame no Habakiri and Enma) hardening them and cleanly dissecting a monster with a single cut.
He was the only one capable of mastering the Enma sword, which is noted for its ability to drain the Ryuo from the wielder of it. Twenty-nine years old, Oden was able to collide with Murakumogiri, one of the twelve Saijo O Wazamono. According to Ashura Doji, Oden was capable of using Haoshoku Haki. During his first encounter with Edward Newgate thirty years ago, their sudden clash created the lightning bolt and strong wind that characterize the clash of two Haki users.
Kaido is proficient in Observation Haki and Armament Haki. He also masters the Royal Haki, as he showed during his fight against Charlotte Linlin, another user of this Haki.
We don’t have much to say here, as both can use all three types of Haki and are quite proficient in them. We couldn’t really determine the more skilled user, so we simply decided to split the points here.

Weapons
Oden was an extremely powerful samurai who wielded the legendary swords Enma and Ame no Habakiri, and used a style known as daito nitoryu or Oden’s two-sword style. At the age of nine, he was able to stand alone against a yakuza group from the capital. And at the age of eighteen, he defeated a legendary beast known as the Mountain God in one attack. According to Kin’emon, his skill was such that he single-handedly defeated Ashura Doji, the most dangerous criminal of the time, along with all of Kuri’s subordinates in a single night.
And Tenguyama Hitetsu stressed that he has been the only one capable of dominating Enma. His swordsmanship was of such a high level that he even managed to injure Kaidou causing his characteristic scar and was on the verge of defeating him were it not for Kurozumi Higurashi’s intervention, a feat that amazed even Kaidou’s own subordinates and only twenty years old. later that feat could be repeated, carried out by his own vassals.
Kaido possesses a Kanabō, which suits his height; in conjunction with his immense strength, he was able to use it to send one of his subordinates out of his lair and onto Luffy.
This is a category where Oden clearly takes the points and there is absolutely no doubt that the samurai is a more skilled swordsman than Kaido. These skills are what actually helped Oden almost defeat Kaido.

Kozuki Oden vs. Kaido: Who wins?
The points actually show a slight difference in Kaido’s favor and we have to agree with that. Kaido is stronger, but not by much. Sure, Oden almost defeated him, but Kaido’s true powers were seen only during his fights with Luffy, and that fight showed that Kaido had much more power than he had shown in his fight against Oden. That is why we have Kaido win this one in the end. Still, before we conclude this one, let us recap the fight between the two, one of the most epic fights in the whole franchise.
Twenty years ago Orochi visited Kuri demanding that Oden let him build factories in the region. Hearing that and about the massacre of the Hyogoro family, Oden couldn’t take it anymore and cried. Before his vassals and his family, Oden decided to definitively attack Kaidou for their happiness. After that, Oden set out with his nine most important vassals to defeat the invading pirate.
Before leaving Oden wrote a letter to his wife, where he asked her to use his powers to help defeat Kaidou in the future in case he died trying. Both factions met at Udon and began to fight. After recognizing Shinobu (who began to help them) and repelling dozens of Kaidou Oden’s subordinates, he managed to make a great cut to the pirate.
Immediately after that Oden heard a fake Momonosuke asking him for help, which Kaidou took advantage of to defeat him with a single blow with his kanabo. After placating all of his enemies, the Beasts Pirates imprisoned Oden and his subordinates, sentencing them to death by being boiled in three days. During that time Oden saw Toki for the last time, to whom he entrusted the swords from him.
Three days later Oden and his vassals were about to be publicly executed, so Oden asked to be released. After discussing it with Kaidou, he agreed to endure an hour being boiled to be released. After speaking Oden quickly entered the boiling pot and began to hold his subordinates with a board so they wouldn’t burn.
As everyone saw his determination, Oden began to endure said execution minute by minute. Shortly after this and to the surprise of all present, Oden was able to resist the agreed time inside the oil. However, Orochi was not satisfied with this and decided to change the method of execution from boiling alive to the firing squad at the last minute.
Aware of the threat, Oden threw the Nine Red Scabbards out of the cauldron with the last of his strength, telling them to do whatever they can to finally open Wano Country to the outside world. After exchanging a few words with Kaidou, he gave an exhausted and very emaciated Oden a shot in the head to end his suffering. Finally, Oden’s body fell into the oil, and the samurai died showing a wide smile.
