Jujutsu Kaisen: What Happened to Kuroi? Did Toji Kill Her?
We have already confirmed that Misato Kuroi, the young woman who is seen with Riko, the current Star Plasma Vessel, is one of the more intriguing new characters from the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen, as well as a surprisingly powerful fighter, based on what we’ve seen and the fact that she does not have any special powers. Misato Kuroi is best known for being Riko’s caretaker, but the two care deeply about each other and develop a close bond. As Riko was taken to Master Tengen’s to merge with them, Misato stayed behind to stop Toji in case Gojo failed. Moments later, we saw Toji but no Misato. So, what happened to her? Did Toji kill her? Keep reading to find out!
Misato Kuroi’s ultimate fate is listed as being unknown, but sadly, we have to state that she is highly probable to be dead. And while Toji Fushiguro doesn’t really kill bystanders for sport, he will kill those he deems dangerous and are in his way, and since we do know that he did fight Misato on his way to Riko, we also know that she was defeated. It remains unknown if she actually died during that battle, but based on the fact that she wasn’t seen again, we assume that she did, but there is a small chance that she survived the battle and is still alive somewhere.
The rest of this article will focus on the character of Misato Kuroi and her ultimate fate in Jujutsu Kaisen. Misato Kuroi was a truly interesting character with a good story, which is why her ultimate fate is of interest to fans, and that actually motivated us to write up this article, in which we will reveal everything that is known about her fate. This article might contain a significant number of spoilers, so do be careful while you’re reading.
Misato Kuroi’s status is officially unknown, but it is more likely than not that she is dead
What is there to tell about Misato Kuroi that we haven’t already told you? She is 31 years old and works as Riko’s caretaker, but she cares a lot about her and is willing to give up her own life to save Riko’s.
She doesn’t perceive Riko simply as the Star Plasma Vessel and views her as a person, which is why they have such a close bond. And while she is a non-user, she can perceive jujutsu and curses and is also very skilled in hand-to-hand combat, which – despite her appearance – doesn’t make her an easy opponent (although she is not able to stand her ground against overpowered enemies).
So, what’s her overall story? The whole story actually started when Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto were compelled to escort Riko to school even though they didn’t believe it was a good idea after rescuing her from Q’s Bayer and Kokun. Geto sent several curses around the school to keep a watch on the girl while the girl’s two guardians remained with Misato close by.
She also gave them the command to stay away from her so that her friends wouldn’t see them. At the same time, Toji Fushiguro put up a bounty on Riko’s head while he remained in the shadows, which was all part of his plan to wear Gojo down and kill him.
When they ended up being exorcised, that was a sign for Geto, Gojo, and Misato to head over to the school and save Rika. While Geto and Misato engaged their opponents, Rika had her music class in the chapel; Gojo was the one to approach her and take her away to safety, which was expected of him.
And as Geto was battling the Old Curse User, Misato was up against the Bag-Man Curse User, another supporting bad guy who wanted to take advantage of Toji’s large bounty on Riko’s head. The Bag-Man Curse User was a physically strong man and was much stronger (physically) than Misato, but she still faced him head-on. And while the big guy warned Misato to step down as he was sure he would defeat her, Misato proved quite resilient, and using only a broom and her agility, Misato actually managed to beat him up and knock him down.
Soon after, Geto, who had taken care of the old guy, arrived and used his curses to immobilize the Bag-Man, whose body suddenly disintegrated and disappeared.
What happened later? Well, Misato first told Geto to leave for Gojo’s location and leave her. Namely, first of all, she thought that Riko needed assistance, and she was willing to sacrifice herself for her well-being, regardless of the circumstances. Secondly, Misato was sure that, since Riko was the target, she would be safe and that Geto did not have to worry about her, as now that Riko had been at another location, no one would target her.
Thirdly, she firmly believed that she could take care of her opponents. Sadly, this was a misjudgment on her part, as Misato Kuroi was kidnapped by two guys who used her as a hostage to get to Riko.
And while Suguru Geto was ashamed for letting this happen to her, he and Gojo quickly located the kidnappers, and while Gojo beat them up silly, Riko freed Misato and saved her. They then spent the rest of the day and the next day in Okinawa, where they had fun and relaxed a bit after all the fighting. So what happened next?
After another day in Okinawa, the gang finally returned to Tokyo, to the school, where they thought they would be safe since they were within the barriers created by Master Tengen.
There, Riko was going to be taken to Master Tengen and merge with them, but things did not turn out as planned, as Toji Fushiguro appeared and pierced Gojo through the chest. And while Gojo survived this, he sent the rest of them away to safety while he took care of their enemy. But, Gojo fell to Toji and was mauled with the Inverted Spear of Heaven, with Toji leaving him for dead.
In the meantime, Geto escorted Riko and Misato to Tengen’s realm, and at one point, Misato stopped and told Riko that she wouldn’t be going any further, as she would be there to hold Toji off; after a sincere hug that showed how close they were, Riko and Geto left, while Misato faced Toji, who would soon arrive to her location.
And while we don’t know what exactly happened, we know that Misato Kuroi was defeated by Toji, a significantly stronger fighter than her. Whether she was killed or not remains unknown, but seeing how Toji wasn’t the most merciful guy in the world, she is – and we’re truly sad to have to say this – probably dead.
We haven’t heard anything about her later, and she doesn’t appear in the series again. Officially, her fate is listed as being unknown, but somehow, we think that she is dead, albeit not all hope is lost.
