Although a lesser-known character from Boruto, Iwabe Yuino has been the topic of much talk among the fandom due to his personal history. Namely, this character’s family history is unknown, which has prompted fans to make up theories about the young shinobi and who his parents might be. We know that he had a grandfather, but who are his parents? In this article, we will try to answer that question by looking at some of the theories surrounding the identity of Iwabe’s parents in Boruto.

  • Article Breakdown:
  • Iwabe Yuino is a genin from Konohagakure who is now a member of Team 5. He is known for his extremely poor academic results, although he ultimately passed the test.
  • His personal history is unknown, and it is known that he had a grandfather whom Yagura Karatachi, the fourth Mizukage, killed. No other family member of his has been identified in the series.
  • The identity of his parents remains unknown, but several theories focus on this issue.

Iwabe’s parents are unknown, and they are probably either not important or not popular characters

Iwabe Yuino is a Genin from Konohagakure. He is part of Team 5 and Metal Lee and Denki Kaminarimon. As a child, Iwabe attended the Hokage inauguration ceremony of Naruto Uzumaki, the Seventh Hokage. Iwabe dreamed of becoming a famous and powerful ninja, so he entered the Ninja Academy.

He consistently got top grades in all the physical practices in his classes. His dislike for non-ninjutsu-related books led him to fail the graduation exam twice because the academy required preparations other than ninjutsu. Iwabe began to blame the new shinobi era for their search for young ninjas with education and physical abilities, as he held him back, becoming a rebel. He regularly skipped classes and bullied his younger classmates.

This brief story is, sadly, all we know about Iwabe’s past. Namely, Kishimoto has not revealed anything else. While that does make some sense, seeing that Iwabe is not an exceptionally major character in Boruto, fans still want answers, and that is why we have decided to explore the internet to try and find an answer for you that will explain everything, including the theories that you can find on various sites and sources. Let us begin!

The only known family member of Iwabe’s was his late grandfather, whom we know nothing about, save for the fact that he was, at one point, killed by Yagura Karatachi, the fourth Mizukage. Since he wasn’t surrounded by anyone when he was a child, we can assume that his parents were absent, meaning they either left him or were dead at the time.

Now, seeing how Masashi Kishimoto has not revealed anything about them, we also have nothing to add here. Still, fans around the Internet have formulated several theories about Iwabe’s parents, and in this article, we will address some of them.

Reddit user ReySoMLB has formulated the following theory:

I really feel like Iwabe’s father is none other than Kakashi. I mean the Mud wall/Earth style and the swag! He’s got a Kakashi vibe. I mean I know he’s darker then him but I mean come on. Maybe I’m missing something.. I’m up to date on the Manga’s and the anime. No where does is specify. could he and Hanare had a dark baby? lol.. Any thoughts? or does anyone have a better theory?

Now, this theory was doomed to fail from the very start, and several users in that thread have immediately responded with why that theory doesn’t make sense, and we actually agree with them. If it turns out that Kakashi is, indeed, Iwabe’s father, Kishimoto would ruing the whole structure of Kakashi’s story and a lot of his narrative’s structure as well, and we know that he is not an author who would do such a thing. So, why is Kakashi not Iwabe’s father?

Well, first of all, the chronology doesn’t really fit, as we couldn’t really pinpoint a proper moment in the timeline that would account for Kakashi being Iwabe’s father, so there is really no reasoning behind this. Secondly, Kakashi was an exceptionally talented shinobi, and his offspring, if such a character ever appears, would certainly be talented as well and wouldn’t fail the exams twice, so there’s also that.

Thirdly, Iwabe looks nothing like Kakashi, and we know that Naruto children usually retain some traits of their parents. Iwabe has absolutely no shared trait with Kakashi – their heir is different, as is their complexion, so there is no way that they are related. Finally, Iwabe’s last name is Yuino, which is not even close to Hatake.

If you add all of this up, it is absolutely clear that Kakashi is not Iwabe’s father. Based on this, we can also refute the theory that his mother is Hanare, as this theory is based on the accidental kiss between Kakashi and Hanare that happened in the series; fans thought that this actually meant something and that Iwabe was the son of Kakashi and Hanare, but that makes absolutely no sense and we can confirm that this theory is absolutely not true and that the two characters in question are not Iwabe’s parents.

From this standpoint, we can conclude that Iwabe’s parents are completely unknown characters, i.e., characters who have not been introduced to the series yet, as there are no viable candidates among the characters that have been introduced so far. Reddit user Murgos2020 has summed this up as follows:

His parents are either Hidden Mist ninja or Hidden Stone ninja. Or a combination thereof. He has the same skin complexion as Cho Cho’s mother but what puzzles me is his attitude toward the Blood Mist village. He has a deep connection with that era leaving me to believe his parents are connected in someway to that past.

They are probably two anonymous characters who will either be introduced to the series or won’t, depending on what Kishimoto has in store for them. If they end up being introduced, this means that they will play an important part in the lore and that Iwabe’s role will increase later in the story. If Kishimoto doesn’t reveal them, that just means that they are not important for the story, which will also make sense, seeing that it wouldn’t be a unique situation per se in Naruto.

And that is the story of Iwabe’s parents. This is, sadly, all we know. Masashi Kishimoto has not revealed any information, and this is all we could deduce based on the canon material and some theories we have found on the Internet, so we hope that this was helpful and that you will now know how to approach the question properly.
