Nobara Kugisaki is the female protagonist of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga and anime series. Debuting in the very beginning, Nobara Kugisaki has become a fan-favorite character, and it was quite surprising for many fans to see that she might be dead. However, knowing Akutami, this wouldn’t be the strangest of scenarios, as many fan-favorite protagonists have or will end up dying in Jujutsu Kaisen. But what if she does not? We know that Mahito seriously injured her eye, and this prompted a series of theories and drawings showing Nobara with an eyepatch. Is Nobara going to wear an eyepatch in Jujutsu Kaisen? Keep reading to find out about the theories.

  • Article Breakdown:
  • During the Shibuya Incident, Nobara Kugisaki and Yuji Itadori clashed with Mahito, who was able to touch Nobara’s face and seemingly kill her.
  • The progression of the wound was stopped by Arata Nitta, but since that moment, Nobara’s fate has been up in the air and no one knows whether she will survive or not.
  • Based on the nature of her injury, if she does end up surviving Mahito’s attack, many fans have speculated that she might return to the series with an eyepatch.

Why would Nobara need to wear an eyepatch?

Now, the eyepatch theory certainly is relevant when talking about Nobara Kugisaki, but before we actually get there, let us first explain why Nobara would even have to wear an eyepatch since the Nobara we met had two functional eyes. The events we are referring to happened in Shibuya during the Shibuya Incident.

At one point, Nobara met Mahito’s clone on the streets while Yuji was fighting the original underground. Nobara’s attacks were useful against Mahito since they pierced his soul, so the damage that the clone took was also transferred to the original. The two Mahitos then decided to unite, and Nobara went after the clone personally, meeting up with Yuji.

There, Mahito tricked them. Namely, as his two clones were approaching each other, Yuji thought that they would unite, but the real Mahito simply passed him and then attacked the defenseless Nobara, touching her eye. Knowing Mahito’s skill, Nobara was severely wounded, but thanks to Arata Nitta’s intervention, the wound did not spread. We know that Nobara lost her eye and that she is in a critical state, but her official status in the series is unknown.

Will Nobara wear an eyepatch? Theories explained!

Now, we have to state that we do not know whether Nobara is going to wake up in Jujutsu Kaisen and whether Akutami plans to bring her back, but in case she does, a lot of fans think that she might end up with an eyepatch:

Nobara started to wear an eyepatch after the shibuya incident because not only did she need to readjust her eyesight it also left a nasty scar on her face and people’s words could hardly take an affect on her but she was starting to doubt the whole “its all over for a female shaman if she cant maintain a pretty face” thing and starts to question it–wether shes losing her beauty. She even gradually hated wearing the eyepatch around the school.
Of course she didn’t say this out loud, since it wasn’t just her to show inner doubts about herself. But when yuji and megumi came in the room telling her that she looked super cool and ten times more intimidating with the eyepatch, or when Gojo approached her saying “you’re mini me now lol” and pats her head, or when maki passes by her, telling her that she looks super badass with it, she felt a hundred times more better. And she even came to love the her that wears the eyepatch. Because who cares abt a stupid scar or a stupid eyepatch that changed her face. She’s still the gorgeous, beautiful, (and fucking metal) nobara kugisaki she once was.

This is just one of the theories we found online, and it actually makes perfect sense. Nobara had an eye injury, and she was definitely left without an eye. In case Akutami decides that she is going to survive, her coming back with an eyepatch would make sense and would place her in a group of famous eyepatch characters such as Bleach‘s Shunsui Kyoraku or Naruto‘s Kakashi Hatake (Akutami could also go for a Rafaela-style scar as Yagi did in Claymore, but we’ll see). This is a solid theory that makes a lot of sense, but we’ll first have to see if Nobara survives in order to determine whether it is true or not.
