The battles of Jujutsu Kaisen have attracted a lot of attention, and fans praise their execution and complexity, both in the manga and the anime series. Each of the arcs had some major battles, but the Shibuya Incident Arc has – so far – given us a set of amazing ones, including the epic clash between Yuji and Mahito, which was the last major battle of the arc. Seeing Nanami’s death, Yuji charged Mahito without thinking, and the battle became an epic clash between two hated enemies. In the end, the self-confident Mahito started running away from Yuji, but why? This article is going to explain everything!

  • Article Breakdown:
  • After seeing Mahito kill Nanami and seemingly kill Nobara, Yuji was broken and was about to be killed by Mahito. Had Aoi Todo not come, he would have died then and there for sure.
  • Itadori regained his composure and soon, with Todo’s help, he was able to defeat Mahito, who was completely broken and was on the brink of death.
  • When he saw the deadly intent in Itadori’s eyes, Mahito was afraid, and he started running away from Itadori.

Itadori was able to defeat Mahito, despite all the setbacks

The story of this article actually starts with a half-burned Nanami walking around Shibuya and coming into a group of transfigured individuals; this happened after his group was attacked by Jogo. Shortly later, Mahito greets him and requests a conversation, but the cursed spirit kills Nanami without hesitation after discovering that Itadori has reached the same spot. Yuji, who is furious and shocked, decides to face Mahito in a final fight, which is what Mahito also wants to do, as he wants to kill Yuji. The issue is that Yuji’s power to strike Mahito’s soul directly gives him the capacity to defeat and kill him, in theory, but Mahito is a very slick enemy, and he has a plan to fight the teenager.

And while he managed to compose himself after witnessing Nanami’s death, he was unaware at the time that Nobara was fighting a clone of Mahito’s on the street above them. When Nobara injured the clone, the original sensed he was in danger. When the two clones decided to approach one another, Yuji and Nobara became one. Mahito staged an act, but Yuji was performing well at the moment. Specifically, Yuji was confused when the two bodies simply ran past each other since he had assumed that they would combine as they raced toward one another. But it was a trick of Mahito’s, so he could touch Nobara and seemingly kill her, which broke Yuji even further.

Sure, Aoi Todi’s arrival changed that, as Yuji’s “brother” helped him, but he still had to regain his will to fight, which he ultimately did, and the fight could continue. Yuji appears in front of Mahito and unleashes a Black Flash on him, but it only deals some minor damage. Mahito then forces his opponents out of the station as the fight continues. He then tries to isolate Aoi so he can fight Yuji, but unfortunately for him, Aoi quickly comes back and is reunited with his “brother.”

Cornered, Mahito decides to use the 0.2-second Domain Expansion, which he saw Gojo use in Shibuya. Though he was able to touch and cut off Aoi’s hand, he was unsuccessful in defeating the two sorcerers. Even after discovering the true nature of his soul, Mahito was unable to prevail, and Yuji was ultimately able to land a final Black Flash that signaled Mahito’s defeat.

Mahito saw the intent of a killer in Yuji’s eyes, so he started running away

Mahito was drained, and he had no transfigured humans he could use anymore. On the other hand, Yuji was also beaten up, but his resolve was different now. As he approached the broken Mahito, Yuji told him that he was right – the two of them were one and the same, but that fact wouldn’t stop him from killing him that time and every other time that Mahito reincarnated.

Seeing Yuji’s new resolve, Mahito knew it was over. Mahito knew that Yuji was about to kill him, so he became afraid as he faced the certainty of death for the first time. And that is why he tried to run away from Yuji. He probably knew it was useless, but it was a desperate move by a desperate man. Yuji simply observed it, like a wolf hunting its prey, and that was the end for Mahito. Okay, it wasn’t Yuji who killed him in the end, but Mahito’s story would end quite soon.
