Jujutsu Kaisen: Is Kenjaku Yuji Itadori’s Mother? Theory Explained!
The relationship between Yuji Itadori and Kenjaku is very specific and undoubtedly one of the most intriguing ones portrayed in Jujutsu Kaisen, based on the facts we know. Kenjaku is one of the major villains in the series, yet he does not seem to care too much about Yuji, who is the protagonist (in comparison to Sukuna, who was Yuji-centered from the beginning), but It turns out that Kenjaku and Yuji were connected in a very close and somewhat intimate way. Remember the theory that Kenjaku is actually Yuji’s mother? Well, in this article, we are going to explain them to you and reveal the truth!
As per the current canon, Kaori Itadori was Kenjaku and thus – Kenjaku is Itadori’s mother
Our whole story starts with the fight between Choso and Itadori in Shibuya, which is when Choso realizes that Itadori could be his brother. He had a crisis, and during that crisis, he connected the dots and realized the truth. Namely, we know that Noritoshi Kamo’s insane experiments on their mother resulted in the birth of Choso and his brothers. Though Choso and his siblings were the result of these horrific experiments over 150 years ago, this felt more like torment than anything else. Choso knew that, but only after he almost killed Yuji did he finally realize the whole truth. But how do Kenjaku and Yuji play a part in all of this?
Well, it turns out that Choso realized that the current Pseudo-Geto is really Noritoshi Kamo, his own father, but it wasn’t even Kamo; it was Kenjaku in Noritoshi Kamo’s body, so it turned out that Kenjaku was Choso’s father and not Noritoshi Kamo. Okay, this all makes sense, but how is all of this related to Yuji? Kamo has been dead for years, and there is absolutely no way he could be connected to Yuji in any way. But…
There was a flashback scene that showed Yuji’s mother, Kaori Itadori. Or at least we think it’s her, but more on that later. Be that as it may, Kaori Itadori had stitches on her forehead, just like Pseudo-Geto and Noritoshi Kamo, which means that her body was under Kenjaku’s control. Kenjaku himself confirmed this later to Tengen, implying that he had taken a great risk with this but that he was ultimately successful. Sadly, at this moment, we don’t know all the circumstances, but as things stand now – Kenjaku is actually Yuji Itadori’s mother. Kenjaku used her body and his skills to “make” Yuji into Sukuna’s vessel, which seemed to have been his plan from the beginning.
This was a shocking revelation but is in line with Gege’s manga panel, as well as Choso’s revelation – namely, the only way that the two of them could actually be brothers is if Kenjaku was in Kaori’s body at the time and gave birth to Yuji, just like Kamo played a role in the births of Choso and his brothers. And most fans take this as a fact. Now, with the manga approaching its ending and Kenjaku seemingly dying, this might never be resolved properly, but fans and all official sources are currently confirming this to be true.
There is one little issue, though. Namely, the flashback scene sees Yuji’s father talking to his grandfather, and it was implied during that scene that Jin wanted a child with Kaori but failed to have one before her death, to which Kaori appears and interrupts the conversation. It was never revealed what Yuji’s grandfather wanted to say, but this detail might cast some doubt over these facts, i.e., leave Gege with some space to shock us. We wouldn’t put it past Gege to do so, but until the canon changes, we have to consider this theory to be true, i.e., we have to state that Kenjaku is, indeed, Yuji Itadori’s mother in the Jujutsu Kaisen series.
