Blood Manipulation is a famous and powerful technique from the Jujutsu Kaisen lore. It is actually a set of combat techniques that charge the blood with cursed energy. Its most famous technique is the Piercing Blood technique. Now, it is a known fact that only a limited number of characters related to the Kamo Clan can use Blood Manipulation, but in recent manga chapters, it has been suggested that Sukuna is also able to use this technique. In this article, we are going to address this issue and reveal what happened in the manga, i.e., whether Sukuna is able to use Piercing Blood in the series or not.

  • Article Breakdown:
  • Piercing Blood is a Blood Manipulation technique that allows the user to compress their own blood and fire it as an arrow or a blade towards their opponent, dealing a massive amount of damage.
  • During the Shinjuku Showdown, Sukuna seemingly used this technique as he made the same hand gesture as Choso when he used it, but Sukuna shouldn’t be able to use it.
  • It was revealed that Sukuna cannot use Piercing Blood, but that he imitated the technique’s power by compressing water from Max Elephant, thus creating a similar attack to Piercing Blood but with water.

Piercing Blood is a manifestation of Blood Manipulation

Blood Manipulation is a set of combat techniques that charge the blood with cursed energy. The wielder of Blood Manipulation can employ both their own blood and blood-infused things. However, controlling your blood involves more than just reshaping or guiding it. Along with everything else, it can track your body temperature, pulse, and red blood cell count. As a result, the person may control his blood both inside and outside his body. If used effectively, this extremely practical approach has the potential to cause massive damage.

There are several individual techniques associated with Blood Manipulation, and Piercing Blood is by far the most potent and dangerous one. The user condenses and compresses their blood to the limit with Convergence, then claps their hands together and fires the blood from their fingertips like an arrow. The compressed blood has extreme power and is able to reach the speed of sound, meaning that it can deal massive amounts of damage and pierce even the most durable surfaces.

Knowing that Blood Manipulation is a technique related to the Kamo Clan (which is how Choso got it, actually), we can actually say that all known users of Blood Manipulation and Piercing Blood are somehow related to the Kamo Clan and that there is no known user of the technique outside the clan. But, during the Shinjuku Showdown, Sukuna positioned his hands in that crucial manner and was seemingly ready to use Piercing Blood. Did he use it? Can he use it? We are now going to answer that!

Jujutsu Kaisen: Who Is Noritoshi Kamo?

Sukuna used water instead of blood, so it was not Piercing Blood that he used

The scene in question happened in Chapter 233 of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga, during Sukuna’s fight against Gojo. Namely, after Gojo used Black Flash on Sukuna and began his fight against Mahoraga, Sukuna recovered and was able to join the fight. Gojo was able to withstand it, but at one point, Sukuna placed his hands in the position for a Piercing Blood move and seemingly fired actual blood at Gojo, which prompted fans to think that Sukuna was able to use Piercing Blood.

But this is not true. We can confirm here that, as far as we know now, Sukuna is not able to use Piercing Blood in the series. But what did he do, then? It looked like Piercing Blood… but it was actually just an imitation of the technique. Namely, Sukuna imitated the mechanism of Piercing Blood, but instead of using blood, he used the water that was inside Max Elephant, one of Megumi’s Shikigami; he had access to all of them thanks to the fact that he had possessed Megumi’s body early on.

The effect was more or less the same and shows Sukuna’s brilliance, but we can confirm that it wasn’t actually Piercing Blood. If we had to name it, we’d call it “Piercing Water,” but that is not an official name. This also showed us that the mechanism of Piercing Blood can be used with any liquid if the user is powerful enough and if there is a sufficient amount of that liquid available, which is a very interesting discovery that opens up numerous possibilities for fans and fanfiction writers to talk about.
