Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav Reveals Release Date for ‘The Penguin’
There are many DC-based projects in the works, with a lot of attention on James Gunn’s DC Universe and his upcoming ‘Creature Commandos’ & ‘Superman: Legacy.’ However, it’s easy to overlook the Elseworlds projects, like ‘The Batman’ film series, which are doing their own thing. One of the next big things is the live-action series ‘The Penguin.’
‘The Penguin,’ created by Lauren LeFranc for Max, is based on the DC Comics character and is tied to the 2022 movie ‘The Batman,’ focusing on the Penguin’s rise in Gotham City’s criminal world. Colin Farrell returns as the Penguin, with Cristin Milioti also starring. Development started in 2021, and filming began in 2023 but paused briefly due to a strike, wrapping up in early 2024.
Now, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has finally announced the release date for the highly anticipated show in his statement to THR. Zaslav stated that ‘The Penguin’ will be available on the Max streaming service in Q3 of 2024, which translates to the months of July to September for non-corporate folks.
This next quarter, we’ll have ‘Hacks’ and ‘House of the Dragon,’ followed by DC’s The ‘Penguin’ and the new ‘Dune’ series. Then in 2025, we’ll kick off the year with the new season of ‘The White Lotus,’ followed by ‘The Last of Us’ and ‘Euphoria,’ just to name a few.
Fans noticed that this suggests Gunn’s ‘Creature Commandos’ might come to the streaming service in Q4, towards the year’s end.
‘The Penguin’ begins a week after ‘The Batman’ and follows Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot’s rise in Gotham’s crime world. It’s said to have eight episodes.
