Florence Pugh Teases ‘Thunderbolts’ Set, New Costume & a New Movie Title in Her Latest Video
One of the highly anticipated future MCU projects is ‘Thunderbolts.’ Production was scheduled to begin in Summer 2023, with the cast likely to feature actors already part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the SAG-AFTRA strike halted progress for over three months, affecting the movie’s development. While details about the plot remain sparse, it’s understood that the story will follow a group of antiheroes undertaking government missions.
Now that ‘Thunderbolts’ has started filming, Florence Pugh, reprising her role as Yelena Belova, has shared behind-the-scenes details in her Instagram video.
Florence guided fans around the set, though she couldn’t reveal much. She offered a peek at her new outfit and took us into the studio while filming was underway. She paused to chat with director Jake Schreier, casually mentioning that the new title of the movie is ‘Thunderbolts*.’ The reason for the asterisk remains unknown, but Florence also referred to the movie this way in her Instagram description, suggesting it’s intentional and its significance will be disclosed later.
The video was posted just days after filming officially commenced. Earlier set leaks mentioned that Sebastian Stan is currently absent from filming his scenes.
‘Thunderbolts’ has faced challenges during its development, including the impact of the SAG-AFTRA strike and Steven Yeun’s departure from the role of Sentry shortly before filming was set to begin. Lewis Pullman was chosen as his replacement, a decision later confirmed by the studio.
Laurence Fishburne and Rachel Weisz are confirmed to return as Bill Foster and Melina Vostokoff in the MCU. Geraldine Viswanathan joined the cast as de Fontaine’s assistant following a scheduling conflict that led to the departure of another actor. The movie’s release date was shifted to May 2, 2025, swapping places with ‘The Fantastic Four.’ Joanna Calo was brought in to rewrite the script, with earlier versions focusing on the team’s perilous missions, potentially leading to their demise.
