Although nearly two decades have passed, Keanu Reeves’ John Constantine may finally be making a return to the big screen! In November 2012, Guillermo del Toro signed a deal to create a Justice League Dark film featuring DC Comics’ supernatural characters, including John Constantine. By November 2020, actor Peter Stormare suggested a sequel might be “in the works” in an Instagram post, though neither Warner Bros. representatives nor Reeves confirmed it at the time.

Then, in 2023, Francis Lawrence revealed he was developing ideas for the iconic film with Keanu Reeves. However, progress has been stalled each time they came up with something concrete due to changes in the DC studio’s leadership.

The latest update comes from Keanu Reeves’ recent appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Reeves was reminded of his past statement expressing a desire to reprise his role as Constantine. Since then, numerous headlines have suggested that the film is essentially greenlit and moving forward.

Reeves provided an update on the film’s status, noting that while the situation is promising, it remains complex.

The no’s started to become a maybe which became a kind of yes. Which became maybe go hire a writer and pay a writer and right now we’re waiting on a script.

Confirmation that Reeves is waiting for the script has raised questions about whether the upcoming movie will fall under the Elseworlds label, like The Batman, or be part of the mainline DCU overseen by James Gunn, potentially connecting with DCU’s Swamp Thing.

Regardless, fans are eagerly anticipating these developments and are excited to see the plans come to fruition.
