‘The Marvels’ Producer Hints at a Sequel, but Some Fans Are Reluctant to Get Onboard: “We are not ready”
2023 was a challenging year for Disney. It marked the first time in recent memory that the studio didn’t release a billion-dollar movie and saw many of its Marvel Studios projects fall short of expectations.
Released in November 2023, ‘The Marvels’ was anticipated to fall short of the box office success of ‘Captain Marvel,’ but the extent of its financial losses was unforeseen.
‘The Marvels’ is currently the lowest-grossing MCU film to date and is also the first MCU movie not to exceed $100 million at the domestic box office. It was somewhat expected when industry insiders revealed that plans for ‘Captain Marvel 3’ were made but subsequently “shelved” for now. Additionally, there were reports that a Disney+ miniseries featuring Monica Rambeau was also canceled due to the disappointing performance of ‘The Marvels.’
Despite these developments, producer Mary Livanos hints at potential future possibilities. In an interview with ComicBook, Livanos suggested that audiences should stay tuned to discover the significant potential of the post-credits scene featuring Beast and Maria Rambeau, Monica’s mother.
“I think fans and myself will have to tune in to find out,”
Fans did not respond well to that answer, and many expressed their concerns.
Given the current state of the MCU, which is seen by many as narratively chaotic, fans have every reason to be skeptical. Phase 4 left numerous plot holes and unresolved storylines, leaving the future of Maria, Monica, and Beast in this uncertain reality up in the air.
