Olympic Esports Games: New Era of Esports Games Competition

The year 2027 marks the inaugural Olympic Esports Games that will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; the first time that the Olympic Movement and the esports industry will come together in one major event. The news comes after the IOC announced at the 142nd IOC Session to establish a new esports competition under the Olympics. In order to achieve this vision, the International Olympic Committee is collaborating with the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee (SOPC), and the Esports World Cup Foundation (EWCF), as the Founding Partner.

By such collaboration, the IOC and EWCF will have the possibility of facilitating the connection between esports and sports through the introduction of qualifying pathways into sports, ensuring equitable competition and harmonizing the national esports infrastructure according to international norms. Provided with the EWCF experience of game selection, tournament organization and involvement of the players, Olympic Esports Games are likely to establish a whole new level of competitive gameplay across the globe and to open a new perspective of career opportunities to the representatives of their nations.
