Classic 1998 PS1 Game Set to Make a Comeback on PS5 and PS4
A classic PS1 fighting game from 1998 is getting a new lease on life as it heads to modern consoles. Sony recently confirmed that Tekken 3 will be available on PS5 and PS4 later this year, joining the PlayStation Plus Classics program.
This initiative has already brought back fan favorites like Resident Evil, Dino Crisis, Myst, and Siphon Filter, making it easier for new and returning players to enjoy older titles.
Tekken 3 originally launched in arcades in 1997 before hitting the PlayStation in 1998. It introduced several characters who would become series staples, including Jin Kazama, Ling Xiaoyu, and Bryan Fury.
The game added new mechanics like sidestepping and included a beat ’em up mode called Tekken Force. The original release was a huge success, selling over 8 million copies on PlayStation worldwide and becoming one of the console’s best-selling titles.
The arcade version also performed exceptionally well. In Japan, it was the top-grossing arcade game in 1998 and sold tens of thousands of units globally.
Tekken 3 earned critical acclaim for its gameplay and was praised as one of the greatest fighting games of its time. Its success helped cement the Tekken franchise as one of the most popular fighting game series in the world.
Sony has not revealed detailed information about what the new release will include, but it will be available through PlayStation Plus. Fans can expect a faithful recreation of the classic experience on modern hardware, and more updates are likely in the coming months.
Bringing Tekken 3 to PS5 and PS4 is an exciting chance for players to experience one of the most influential fighting games ever. It’s a smart move for Sony to continue reviving classics for new audiences. What do you think about Tekken 3 coming back on modern consoles? Share your thoughts in the comments.
