Prime Video’s Spanish zombie franchise is gearing up for a bigger, bloodier return. ‘Apocalypse Z: New World’ is the sequel to the 2024 hit ‘Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End’, and it is set to land just in time for Halloween.

The first film made a massive impression around the world. According to Prime Video, it became the streamer’s most-watched international Original movie, surpassed only by ‘Your Fault’.

With the release date drawing closer, Prime Video has now unveiled a striking new poster alongside a chilling tagline: “Five strangers. One way in. No way out.” The streamer also confirmed that the sequel premieres on October 30.

The artwork captures the sequel’s escalating scale. 5 armed survivors in military gear stand on top of a stranded army vehicle, completely surrounded by a sea of reaching infected hands, while an SOS banner hangs from a crumbling building in the background.

It’s an image that perfectly sums up the film’s survival stakes. There’s nowhere to run, and the group’s only hope appears to be sticking together. The new chapter shifts the story to the Canary Islands, which have become Europe’s last refuge following the outbreak of the TSJ virus.

When a special mission sets out for the mainland in search of vital supplies, a man named Roberto joins the team with questionable intentions. The dangerous operation quickly turns into a desperate race for survival.

Roberto and his companions find themselves caught between hordes of infected and divided loyalties, facing a classic dilemma about whether to save themselves or risk everything to preserve what little humanity remains.

The sequel is adapted from author Manel Loureiro’s books and promises more action and a larger ensemble story. That marks a clear expansion beyond the more solitary struggle of the first film.

The core group is led by Carlos Alcaide, Julia Martínez, Mónica López, Tamara Casellas and Santiago Vaca Narvaja. Joining them are newcomers Axel Medrano, Pedro Hernández, Javier Godino, Ujin Moreno and Mario Mayo.

Several fan favorites are also back. José María Yazpik reprises his role as Pritchenko, an ally from the first film searching for a possible way out, while Berta Vázquez returns as Lucía, a nurse barricaded inside a hospital under constant threat from the infected.

Perhaps the most beloved returning star has 4 legs. Pedrito, the cat who plays Lúculo and won over audiences in the first film, is back as well, and an earlier teaser even opened with the cat amid the wreckage of a crashed helicopter in Madrid.

Carles Torrens returns to direct after helming the original, working from a screenplay by Ángel Agudo. Nostromo Pictures is producing, with Núria Valls and Adrián Guerra serving as executive producers.

Before hitting streaming, the sequel will make its world debut at the Sitges Film Festival on October 10 as part of the festival’s 59th edition. It then gets its US premiere at Screamfest in Los Angeles on October 13, giving it a proper horror-circuit launch before reaching living rooms.

After that festival run, ‘Apocalypse Z: New World’ will stream exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. The first film is currently streaming on the platform, so viewers have time to catch up before the sequel arrives.
