‘Edward Scissorhands’ was directed by Tim Burton from a script by Caroline Thompson, based on a story the 2 developed together. Johnny Depp starred as Edward, an unfinished artificial man with scissor blades for hands who is taken in by a suburban family.
The film also starred Winona Ryder as Kim Boggs, the teenage daughter Edward falls in love with, along with Dianne Wiest, Anthony Michael Hall, Alan Arkin, and Vincent Price as the Inventor. Its bittersweet story ends with an older Kim saying she sometimes still dances in the snow Edward creates.
The character’s look became iconic thanks to Stan Winston, who created the scissor hands. Winston and Ve Neill earned an Oscar nomination for Best Makeup, and Danny Elfman’s score remains one of his most beloved works.
Cameron’s version stays faithful to the character’s gothic style while adding her own polished touch. The pale makeup and wild hair capture Edward’s haunted, fragile look, while the glossy styling gives the outfit a fashion-forward edge.
