Marvel Television has had an up-and-down stretch on Disney+. ‘Wonder Man’ was canceled after a single season despite an earlier renewal, and ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ is set to wrap up with its third season, arriving on Disney+ in 2027.

Meanwhile, ‘VisionQuest’ has been winning over fans ahead of its finale on November 10. Behind the scenes, though, the studio appears to be preparing a reset for its live-action shows.

According to TheWrap, Marvel Television’s live-action output will go on hiatus after ‘VisionQuest’ and the final season of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’. No new live-action series is expected until after ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, which hits theaters on December 17, 2027.

A source told the outlet that Marvel Television always has 3 to 5 live-action shows in development. That makes the hiatus sound less like a retreat and more like a deliberate pause before the next phase.

The first show out of the gate will be ‘Zodiac’. TheWrap reports that the series is being designed as a “jumping-on point” for new fans after ‘Secret Wars’. Familiar MCU characters and actors could appear in supporting roles. Rumors from September had already suggested that the series was built to allow other MCU characters to guest star.

That approach could give the show the best of both worlds. Newcomers would get a fresh story, while longtime fans would still see connections to the wider franchise. Marvel TV chief Brad Winderbaum introduced ‘Zodiac’ at New York Comic Con on October 8. He shared a few story details but hinted that the series’ logo contains clues for comic fans.

CBR noted that the logo includes pieces of the S.H.I.E.L.D. emblem. In the comics, Zodiac is a criminal organization inspired by astrological signs that often clashes with S.H.I.E.L.D., and its leader, Scorpio, is Jacob Fury, the younger brother of Nick Fury.

The series has been described as following 2 spies hunting targets with special abilities. Writers Ron Leshem and Amit Cohen are reportedly developing it. The show is also expected to be more modest in scale. TheWrap reports that ‘Zodiac’ is being made on a smaller budget than Marvel’s recent star-driven series, including ‘Daredevil: Born Again’, ‘Agatha’ and ‘VisionQuest’.

That leaner approach is reportedly meant to help the show run beyond a single season. Marvel is said to hope ‘Zodiac’ can become a longer-running series. Filming is set to begin in London in spring 2027, and casting was expected to start soon after the Comic-Con announcement. The series is targeting a 2028 premiere on Disney+. Because it arrives after ‘Secret Wars’, ‘Zodiac’ will help shape what Marvel’s streaming slate looks like in the next era of the MCU. No cast members have been announced yet.

The plan reflects a broader shift in Marvel’s streaming strategy. By pairing a self-contained story with optional links to the larger universe, the studio seems to be trying to attract new viewers without losing its existing audience. Many details are still unconfirmed, and Marvel hasn’t officially announced the hiatus. Still, ‘Zodiac’ looks set to play a big role in the franchise’s future on Disney+.

Would Zodiac be a good starting point for new MCU fans after Avengers: Secret Wars?
