All 3 ‘Power’ Shows Featuring Tommy Egan (Ranked)

Share:

When ‘Power’ came out on Starz in 2014, it was an immediate hit, and we all knew it was going to be good. In fact, it was so good that it resulted in the creation of the ‘Power’ universe, consisting of four different shows. Tommy Egan – one of the lead characters in the original series – is the only character who has a pivotal role in three of the four ‘Power’ shows.

Today, we’re here to list and rank all three ‘Power’ shows featuring Tommy Egan, portrayed by Joseph Sikora.

‘Power’ shows featuring Tommy Egan, ranked from worst to best

Before we begin with the ranking, I want to highlight the fact that none of these shows are actually bad. They are all awesome in their own right, but if we have to rank them somehow, we’ll rank them by their respective critical acclaim and the importance of Tommy Egan in the shows. On that note, here are the rankings.

3. Power Book II: Ghost (2020-)

When ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ came out, and people heard it would center around Tariq St. Patrick – the guy that just shot and killed his father and one of our favorite characters in James ‘Ghost’ St. Patrick – there was outrage, naturally.

However, as the show went on, it grew on fans, and so did Tariq. Through epic writing, Tariq became a layered, complex character who really resembled his father in many ways.

The show’s still ongoing, but there are two main reasons why I have it at number three. First, it features Tommy Egan in only a handful of episodes, so if Tommy is what you’re here for, there isn’t a lot for you here. And second, it has the poorest reviews and ratings of all the ‘Power’ shows, so it’s only natural we rank it last. It’s a great show, but the rest are even greater.

2. Power Book IV: Force (2022-)

It’s hard even to rank ‘Power Book IV: Force’ because it’s still ongoing – and it’s so good, but so different than the rest of the shows. It focuses on Tommy Egan and the life he’s trying to build in Chicago after leaving NYC behind.

It’s probably my favorite of all the ‘Power’ shows, but I just can’t rank it above the original show yet. Sure, the series is amazing so far, but there’s always room for a mess-up, so we might want to revisit these rankings once ‘Force’ is officially over.

1. Power (2014-2020)

Finally, the original show, whose success blossomed into a franchise with three spin-off shows, has to be at the number one spot. It’s a brilliant show with complex and controversial characters, and Tommy Egan is right in the middle of it all as one of the two leads. Joseph Sikora portrays Tommy, and he does an absolute marvel of a job.

Whenever someone asks me about ‘Power,’ I tell them to watch the original show first. If you get into this one – and I’m sure you will – you’ll gobble up the other shows in a heartbeat and still want more.

Are all ‘Power’ shows featuring Tommy Egan connected?

The entire ‘Power’ universe – even the show that doesn’t include Tommy Egan – is deeply connected and rooted in the lives of the characters it follows. Naturally, all ‘Power’ shows featuring Tommy Egan are connected to each other as well.

The original show, ‘Power’ (2014-2020), saw the characters of James ‘Ghost’ St. Patrick and Tommy Egan in the lead roles, as the two were best friends and business partners in the drug-dealing game in New York City.

When ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ was announced, fans thought we were getting a show directly revolving around James St. Patrick – the ‘Ghost’ from the original show that was undoubtedly a fan-favorite character. Instead, we got a show about his son, Tariq, and seeing he wasn’t such a fan-favorite character as James, the show got some backlash and poor reviews in the beginning.

I mean, it’s understandable. After all, it was Tariq who shot and killed Ghost at the end of ‘Power.’ As ‘Power Book II’ progressed, though, fans grew into it, as the story is just incredibly well-written, and Tariq turns into an incredible character with deep growth, and you can clearly see the traits of his father within him.

Now, in this particular show, you get to see Tommy Egan in only a handful of episodes – three, if I’m right. His role was that of a guest character, but it was pivotal, not just for ‘Power Book II,’ but also for setting up ‘Power Book IV: Force’ – where Tommy is once again the main character.

In this show, after faking his own death, Tommy leaves NYC behind and stops in Chicago on his way to California. However, the Windy City grows on him, and he decides to stay there and make it his new base of operations, trying to take over the city’s drug-dealing game.

What’s the best way to watch all the ‘Power’ shows featuring Tommy Egan?

Seeing that ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ and ‘Power Book IV: Force’ are direct sequels and spin-offs of the original show, I recommend you watch them in their release order. That way, you’ll get to see how Tommy’s character evolved, and you’ll witness his story being told chronologically, as was intended by the showrunners.

From his best friend dying in his arms, faking his own death to avoid incarceration to growing a new business empire in a new city, Tommy is truly a remarkable and ruthless character. Watching these shows in their release order will give you the best idea about why Tommy Egan is such a fan-favorite.

If you want to include ‘Power Book III: Raisin Kanan’ to your watchlist despite the fact that it doesn’t include Tommy Egan, I suggest you watch it first, due to it being a prequel of the original series revolving around the upbringing and early crime days of Kanan. The character was portrayed by 50 Cent in ‘Power,’ while the young version of Kanan is played by Mekai Curtis.

‘Power’ shows featuring Tommy Egan in order by release date

Tommy Egan appears in three of the four shows that belong to the ‘Power’ universe. If you’re ready to jump right in and watch them, here’s a list of all the shows featuring Tommy in order by release date:

  1. Power (2014-2020)
  2. Power Book II: Ghost (2020-)
  3. Power Book IV: Force (2022-)

The only show without Tommy Egan is ‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan,’ which is a prequel set in the 1990s, so it’s logical that Egan is not a part of the show. As for the three shows featuring Tommy Egan, I’ll explain how all of them are connected, which one is the best, and what the best way and order to watch them is.

WARNING: Keep in mind, there will be spoilers in the article, so if you don’t want the plot of any of the shows to be spoiled from you even slightly, stop reading this article right here.

‘Power’ shows featuring Tommy Egan in chronological order

As you’ve probably figured out by now, the only show within the ‘Power’ universe that isn’t in chronological order with the rest of the shows is the show that doesn’t involve Tommy Egan – ‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan.’

‘Power Book II’ and ‘Power Book IV’ are both direct sequels and spin-offs of the original ‘Power’ series. The chronological order of these shows is the same as their release order.

‘Power Book II’ shows Tommy in a handful of episodes in the aftermath of his partner, James St. Patrick’s death, and it sets up the story of him starting fresh in Chicago that we see in ‘Power Book IV.’

If you want to watch only the three shows involving Tommy chronologically, watch them by their release order. However, if you insist on watching the entire ‘Power’ universe chronologically, simply watch ‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan’ first and then continue watching the rest in release order.

Where to watch all the ‘Power’ shows featuring Tommy Egan?

Seeing that all the ‘Power’ shows are STARZ originals, you’ll be able to find them all available for streaming on STARZ. If STARZ isn’t available for you, you can always buy/rent the ‘Power’ shows on iTunes, Google Play, or Vudu.

Will there be more ‘Power’ shows featuring Tommy Egan?

The only show within the ‘Power’ universe that’s officially over is the original series, ‘Power.’ It ended after six seasons in 2020, but right away, the spinoff, ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ came out.

Now, Tommy Egan probably won’t appear in any additional shows, but ‘Power Book IV: Force’ that centers around him in Chicago is still ongoing, as fans eagerly anticipate a third season. The release date is still uncertain, seeing that Season 2 wrapped up just recently.

There’s also a chance we’ll get to see Tommy in ‘Ghost’ again in a cameo role somewhere along the lines, but I’m only saying that because both shows are still ongoing, and I’m sure the fans would love it, so perhaps the writers work it in just as a fan service. Take that with a grain of salt, though – but rest assured ‘Force’ is coming back with more Tommy Egan for Season 3.
