NINJA KAMUI is an American anime series that premiered on February 11, 2024. It is an original anime series that is not based on any pre-written material. Warner Bros. really did a great job with it, and NINJA KAMUI is, indeed, one of the more popular anime series currently airing. It is a story of revenge, of a man who was struck by tragedy and now – using his ninja skills – sets forth to find revenge. Combining anime and vigilantism, NINJA KAMUI is a series that you can definitely enjoy and we understand why it is so popular.
This popularity is, actually, what inspired this article. Namely, in it, we are going to bring you a list of the ten best anime titles like the NINJA KAMUI anime series, that fans of this original anime will definitely enjoy and simply must see. The titles are not going to be ranked in any particular order, but we are going to provide you with some information about them, as well as their ratings.
1. ΛFΓO SΛMUΓΛI
IMDb Rating: 7.6/10
What it’s about: It is stated that in a futuristic Japan when the feudal system still exists, the person wearing the armband designated as Number 1 will be the world’s most valiant combatant and possess power comparable to that of the gods. One must challenge the current owner to a fight in order to obtain this armband.
Why you should watch it: ΛFΓO SΛMUΓΛI is not a mainstream title, but it is absolutely a cult classic that every anime fan should watch. It has a somewhat strange odd style that is more Western, which makes sense in the context of this list, and the themes analyzed are very similar.
2. Berserk (1997)
IMDb Rating: 8.7/10
What it’s about: The encounter between Guts and Griffith, the commander of the Falcon Troop, a group of hired guns working for the Midland Kingdom, is the main plot of Berserk. A conflicted but effective friendship will emerge from this meeting: Guts, the warrior with the disproportionate sword, will soon prove indispensable to the aspirations of young Griffith, a daring swashbuckler and exceptional tactician.
Why you should watch it: In all honesty, we didn’t simply want to include ninja and samurai titles on this list, so we were looking for other titles with a similar thematic outline, and Berserk – being a classic – perfectly fits the revenge theme of NINJA KAMUI and it is, undoubtedly, a great series with a great story.
3. Rurouni Kenshin (1996)
IMDb Rating: 8.5/10
What it’s about: The events of Rurouni Kenshin‘s story take place in Tokyo in 1878. During the Tokugawa era, Kenshin Himura—a former assassin known by the nickname Battôsaï, which translates as “master in drawing the sword”—hides a troubled background. Since the beginning of the Meiji period, he has become a vagabond who roams the nation carrying a sword with an obverse blade and a wish to stop killing.
Why you should watch it: Rurouni Kenshin might not be about revenge, but it is about sword fighting and taking care of bad guys. It is also a true classic and we definitely recommend it.
4. Blade of the Immortal
IMDb Rating: 6.7/10
What it’s about: The narrative takes place in Edo-era Japan. Manji, the main character, is a warrior with a significant edge over his opponents: no wound can kill him. He had already killed one hundred other samurai, including the husband of his sister. He receives the gift of immortality from an old nun, said to be 800 years old, using worms known as kessenchū, which heal wounds and can even regenerate limbs even though the loss occurred hours earlier.
Why you should watch it: Most titles on this list that are related to ninja and samurai are more traditional in approach, and so is Blade of the Immortal, but the topic of revenge, as well as the use of traditional Japanese arts is what makes this series a great pick for fans of NINJA KAMUI.
5. Vinland Saga
IMDb Rating: 8.8/10
What it’s about: The story of a young Icelandic man named Thorfinn Thorsson blends many fictional aspects with real-life historical individuals and events. The life of this son of a famous warrior who has come to God will be completely upended when he is killed by pirates under the guileless leadership of Askeladd. Motivated by retaliation, Thorfinn will trail and eventually merge with this group in order to take out his father’s killer in a respectable duel. The central theme of the prologue of the tale is Thorfinn’s desire for vengeance.
Why you should watch it: Vinland Saga has little to do with ninjas, but it shares the theme of revenge as well as some other elements with our series. Vinland Saga is a great series and one of the most popular ones in the modern area, so you definitely need to give it a go.
6. Shinobi no Ittoki
IMDb Rating: 6.1/10
What it’s about: After they attempt to kill him, Ittoki Sakaruba discovers that he is a legitimate heir and direct descendant of a ninja clan in modern-day Japan. While investigations are conducted to find out more about the failed murder attempt, he is sent to Japan’s sole national ninja school, Ninjutsu Academy. Ittoki makes friends with some young, attractive, and lethal ninja females at school, but the danger is never far from the surface, particularly with a potential traitor among them.
Why you should watch it: We decided to list Shinobi no Ittoki here because it is an original anime as well, because it combines traditional Japan with the modern world, and because it was a very popular series when it came out, so we think you should give it a try.
7. Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku
IMDb Rating: 8.2/10
What it’s about: The most well-known and formidable ninja assassin, Gabimaru, has been apprehended and is being held captive. He waits impatiently for an executioner, claiming to have no purpose left in life, but instead gets a visit from an extremely odd one. She tests him after a hard battle that he barely made it through. She gives him a contract in return for saving a life: he must travel to an unidentified island to retrieve an elixir of immortality. The only issue is that everyone who had visited this island returned broken.
Why you should watch it: Hell’s Paradise is a lot more fantasy than NINJA KAMUI, but it is similar in many ways, along with the fact that it is a truly great modern-day anime that became a big hit. You’ll definitely love it.
8. Rurouni Kenshin (2023)
IMDb Rating: 8.0/10
What it’s about: The plot of the remake is identical to the 1996 original (see above), but the difference between this adaptation and the initial one is that the 2023 version is a faithful adaptation of the manga, while the original had a lot of anime-only content.
Why you should watch it: If you liked the 1996 original, this faithful adaptation of the original manga is going to be a great experience, as not only does it adapt the story as it was, but it also significantly improves the animation quality.
9. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba
IMDb Rating: 8.6/10
What it’s about: Young Tanjiro Kamado has to withstand his family being killed and his younger sister Nezuko being transformed into a Demon by Muzan Kibutsuji. In order to avenge his family, he becomes a Demon Slayer and works hard to become strong enough to kill Muzan and cure his sister.
Why you should watch it: Demon Slayer doesn’t really need much introduction, as it is one of the most popular titles in shonen history. It shares many elements with our show, so it is definitely something we recommend highly.
10. GOBLIN SLAYER!
IMDb Rating: 7.4/10
What it’s about: The enigmatic Goblin Slayer witnessed a horde of Goblins rape and kill his older sister as a child. Traumatized, he swore revenge on them and has since been training to become the best Goblin Slayer in the world, traveling with his party of friends and killing them wherever he finds them.
Why you should watch it: If you’re looking for a revenge flick, then GOBLIN SLAYER! is your best pick. It has absolutely nothing to do with ninjas, but we wanted to diversify the list with fantasy works as well, especially when they’re thematically related.
