After ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ came out, the DCEU wrapped up, and now the DCU is stepping in. James Gunn’s upcoming reboot is meant to be a soft one, but it seems like he’s taking the DC characters in a brand-new direction. The ‘Superman’ movie is up first for the live-action part of the DCU. We’ve just found out that they’ve started shooting the movie, and Gunn even gave us a sneak peek of the new Superman suit on social media, mentioning it was inspired by Alex Ross.

When it comes to the cast, we already know about 90% of the actors, but The Hollywood Reporter just announced that Wendell Pierce from ‘The Wire’ has joined as the Daily Planet’s editor-in-chief.

The main lineup includes David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman and Michael Holt as the villain Lex Luthor. Rachel Brosnahan will play Lois Lane, with Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl. Edi Gathegi is set as Mister Terrific, and Nathan Fillion will be Guy Gardner/Green Lantern. Anthony Carrigan got the role of Rex Mason/Metamorpho, María Gabriela de Faría will be Angela Spica/Engineer, and Sara Sampaio is Eve Teschmacher. Skyler Gisondo will show up as Jimmy Olsen and Sean Gunn is cast as Maxwell Lord.

Talking about the story, during the DCU announcement, Gunn mentioned that ‘All-Star Superman’ inspired the new movie. It would be cool if Gunn could blend that inspiration with other ideas.

They’re planning to start filming at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, aiming to finish by July. The movie will bring in some new heroes, like Nathan Fillion playing Guy Gardner, one of the Green Lanterns. ‘Superman’ is set to come out on July 11, 2025.
