Brie Larson Hints at MCU Return but Keeps Details on Future ‘Avengers’ Role Under Wraps

The third film in MCU’s Phase 5, ‘The Marvels,’ ended up being a significant box-office disappointment, leading to several changes within the MCU. Despite featuring three key characters for the future of the franchise, the sequel to ‘Captain Marvel’ was heavily criticized by both fans and critics.
Although ‘The Marvels’ was widely regarded as a “bad” movie, it did set up some crucial elements for the future. Monica Rambeau is now trapped in an alternate reality that appears to be inhabited by mutants, and Kamala Khan has embarked on her Young Avengers initiative.
The future of Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel was the only one not hinted at in ‘The Marvels,’ though she did vow to do everything in her power to rescue Monica. While Larson has previously mentioned that there are more stories to tell about Captain Marvel, recent rumors suggest that ‘Captain Marvel 3’ may no longer be in the works.
In a recent interview on The Playlist’s Bingeworthy podcast, Larson responded to the latest SDCC news regarding ‘The Avengers’ franchise and Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU as Doctor Doom. She expressed her surprise at the revelation, stating she had no idea about this development despite having spoken with Feige before the announcements.
I want to be clear. I was just with Kevin [Feige]. It was like that same day, and he was like, ‘Oh yeah, we’re doing a thing at Comic-Con.’ He did not say that at all! Not at all!
Larson also shared some insights about her own future and the upcoming trajectory of the Marvels in the MCU:
I just loved being with those ladies so much, and I think that the sentiment of it is so right to me and is much more where I’m at in my life, which is, there’s no one superhero that can save us. It takes all kinds of people that have their own special skill sets and the ability to understand that the brink of disaster cannot be stopped by one. It’s all of us coming together. So that feels really right to me. And you know, as for the future, there’s things that I know, but I can’t tell you.
Regarding her potential role in ‘Avengers’ installments, Larson admitted there is no straightforward answer. She explained that she won’t reveal any details because no matter how she handles the question, it will likely be misinterpreted.
I can’t say anything and I can’t even say that I don’t know anything because that might mean that there’s something to say or not say. So I’ll just say that I can’t say.
Regardless of what Larson reveals, she remains one of the MCU’s most popular and powerful characters. It’s highly likely that she’ll return in future projects, serving as a major force for the heroes.
