Cal Kestis Reportedly Set for Live-Action Debut, Here’s Our Best Guess On How & When

One of the most popular Star Wars characters in recent years didn’t make his debut in live-action or animated projects; he first appeared in the Star Wars Jedi franchise. We’re talking about Cal Kestis.

Kestis has been featured in two games so far: Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. A former Jedi Padawan and survivor of the Great Jedi Purge, Cal lives in seclusion on the planet Bracca during the early days of the Galactic Empire. However, an incident forces him to reveal his Force powers, drawing the attention of the Inquisitors, the Empire’s Jedi hunters.

In his quest to rebuild the Jedi Order, Cal forms unlikely alliances that become like a second family, aiding him in his fight against the Empire. Both critics and fans have received Cal positively, applauding his character development and relationships, although he initially faced some criticism for his “boring” appearance in the first game.

Recently, fans have been clamoring for Cal to join the live-action franchise, and if we’re to believe Daniel Richtman, a well-known industry insider, he may be making his live-action debut soon.

When it comes to casting, fans agree that it makes no sense for the character to be played by anyone other than Cameron Monaghan, especially since Respawn employs photorealistic graphics to capture the actor’s likeness in the game. Thus, he is a natural fit for the role.

The only remaining question is which project he might debut in. While it seems unlikely that he will have his own standalone show, given the timeline of the games and Cal’s status, he could potentially appear in Ahsoka season 2.

Although Cal and Ahsoka have never crossed paths, the live-action series could change that. However, a challenge arises since Jedi: Fallen Order is set in 14 BBY, five years after Revenge of the Sith. While Cal’s exact age during the game isn’t specified, he is likely in his early 20s. The Mandalorian occurs 23 years later, meaning Cal would be around 40. Ahsoka takes place afterward, around 9 ABY.

Cameron Monaghan, who is 27, could potentially portray a 40-year-old Cal with the help of makeup. If this is the case, it’s possible that Cal might also appear in the upcoming The Mandalorian & Grogu, although it’s unclear how his story would connect with the existing cast.
