‘Captain America: Brave New Drop’ – MCU Sees Another Steep Decline With ‘Brave New World’ Seeing 68% Drop Over Its Second Weekend
Marvel’s latest film, Captain America: Brave New World, is losing steam at the box office. Despite opening strong with $100 million over the Presidents Day weekend, the movie saw a steep 68% drop in its second weekend, earning just $28.3 million across 4,105 theaters in North America.
So far, the film has made $141 million in the U.S. and $289.4 million worldwide. With a budget of over $180 million (not including marketing costs), it still has a long way to go before turning a profit.
Big-budget superhero movies often see big drops in their second weekend, but Brave New World’s decline is more severe than most. The last Ant-Man movie suffered a similar fate with a 69% drop, struggling to reach $500 million globally. Meanwhile, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 held strong after its debut and became a major hit. The Marvels still holds the record however with a 78% drop in its second weekend.
Industry experts believe this steep drop is part of a new trend for Marvel films. While the franchise still has loyal fans, the excitement isn’t what it used to be. If Brave New World continues to fade quickly, it could be another sign that the once-unbeatable Marvel Cinematic Universe is facing serious challenges.
For movie theaters, this isn’t great news either. With no major blockbusters set to release until Disney’s Snow White remake on March 21, audiences may have fewer reasons to visit the big screen in the coming weeks.
