The ‘Spider-Verse’ franchise, notably one of the most significant animated superhero projects in recent years, gained immense popularity with its first movie, ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,’ followed by the groundbreaking success of its sequel, ‘Across the Spider-Verse.’

Being Sony Pictures Animation’s first global theatrical release since ‘The Angry Birds Movie 2’ in 2019, the film garnered positive reviews and achieved remarkable box office success, grossing an impressive $690.5 million worldwide. Surpassing its predecessor, it claimed the third-highest-grossing film spot in the U.S. for 2023, earning the title of Sony Pictures Animation’s highest-grossing film. Recognized as the Best Animated Film by the National Board of Review and acknowledged by the American Film Institute in their top 10 films of 2023, the sequel, now titled ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse,’ has fans eagerly anticipating more.

Chris Miller, one of the sequel’s writers, recently provided an update for enthusiasts, adding to the anticipation surrounding ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.’

“We’re in production… we’re really excited about where the story is going, I think it’s a very satisfying conclusion to the trilogy, and it’s as emotional as the other ones… we’re knee-deep in it.”

Phil Lord humorously mentioned that the movie will hit theaters. Confirming a third installment in the ‘Spider-Verse’ series in December 2021, Lord and Miller initially named it ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part Two)’ for a 2023 release. By April 2022, it was retitled ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.’ Despite concerns about production delays, Lord and Miller emphasized the need for quality and took the time necessary. In July 2023, the film was removed from the schedule due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, with ‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’ taking its release date. Following the strike’s conclusion in November 2023, voice recording resumed, and Lord and Miller confirmed being “knee-deep” in production.

In addition to ‘Beyond the Spider-Verse,’ a ‘Spider-Women’ spinoff is in development, focusing on three generations of female Spider-People. However, Lord and Miller aren’t directly involved; Bek Smith is the writer, and Lauren Montgomery is the director.

Fans eagerly absorb any information, especially since the third film promises an emotional farewell for Miles Morales. Despite rumors of Miles entering the MCU, this marks his supposed conclusion. What are your thoughts on it? Share in the comments below!
