‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 2 Finale Earns the Highest IMDb Score of Any MCU Episode in History

Marvel’s street-level corner of the MCU has always operated on a different frequency from the rest of the franchise. Since Charlie Cox first stepped back into the red suit, ‘Daredevil‘ has been praised for its brutal action choreography, gritty noir aesthetic, and the magnetic dynamic between Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio, setting a standard that the rest of Disney’s Marvel television output has struggled to match.

Season 2 of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ premiered on Disney+ on March 24, 2026, arriving with a renewed sense of purpose after a divisive first outing. Showrunner Dario Scardapane assembled a cast that included Krysten Ritter returning as Jessica Jones, alongside Wilson Bethel back as Bullseye and Matthew Lillard as the mysterious newcomer Mr. Charles. Where Season 1 had divided audiences with looser connectivity to the original Netflix series, Season 2 delivered great episode after great episode through dynamite performances, no-holds-barred action, and a clear reverence for the show that started it all.

Now the numbers are backing that sentiment up in historic fashion. ‘The Southern Cross,’ the Season 2 finale, has surged to a 9.6 out of 10 on IMDb, officially making it the highest-rated episode of any streaming series in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Daredevil franchise already had its fingerprints all over that record. Season 2, Episode 4, titled ‘Gloves Off,’ had previously claimed that top spot with a 9.6 rating, dethroning ‘Loki’s’ celebrated series finale, which holds a 9.5. The franchise now holds both of the top positions in MCU television history.

The finale earned that distinction with one of the most consequential hours in the entire run of the series. With Karen Page dragged into a rigged prosecution under Mayor Fisk’s corrupt administration, Matt Murdock makes the choice he has spent years avoiding. He reveals in open court that he is Daredevil, sacrificing his law career and ultimately his freedom to dismantle Fisk’s grip on New York. The moment draws from Marvel Comics history, echoing storytelling from Mark Waid and Chris Samnee’s celebrated run, though the show gives it its own weight through performances that critics are already calling the best of Cox and D’Onofrio’s careers in these roles.

The critical reaction was swift and enthusiastic. Reviewers at Collider called the finale “superb and one of the best episodes of Marvel Television to date,” with particular praise directed at the way the courtroom climax reframed the entire Matt and Fisk dynamic as a story of two men who are, ultimately, mirror images of each other.

The finale also repositions several key players heading into Season 3. Luke Cage, played by a returning Mike Colter, reunites with Jessica Jones and their daughter Danielle, while Bullseye is placed under the employment of the mysterious Mr. Charles, with the closing scenes clearly setting the stage for a Defenders reunion. Season 3 is already confirmed and in production, meaning the story Matt Murdock’s imprisonment begins is already in motion.

After an eight-episode run that played less like a conventional season finale and more like a warning shot, ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ has made the strongest possible case that it is the definitive version of street-level Marvel storytelling. Whether you think Matt revealing his identity in open court is the boldest swing in MCU television history, or you’re already convinced Season 3 will somehow top it, is exactly the kind of argument worth making in the comments.
