Deadpool 3: Every Confirmed & Possible Character to Appear
We have known for a while that the third Deadpool installment is in development and it’s set to bring the Merc with a Mouth to the biggest movie franchise ever — Marvel Cinematic Universe! Ever since Disney acquired Fox in 2019, Marvel President Kevin Feige confirmed that Ryan Reynolds will continue to play the titular role because, let’s be real, Ryan owns that role. What’s more, despite being under Disney now, Deadpool movies will continue to be rated R.
After years of rumors and speculation, Ryan Reynolds finally brought us some legit news about the long-anticipated sequel. In September 2022, Reynolds announced that Deadpool 3 is set to be released on September 6, 2024. Reynolds was also accompanied by Hugh Jackman, who revealed the biggest news about this movie — he will return as the Wolverine!
With that, we have two characters who are 100% confirmed to appear in Deadpool 3. In this article, we will list every character who is confirmed to appear in the movie, but also every character that could possibly appear in the movie. We will update this article as new information and updates about the movie will be revealed.
Directed by Shawn Levy, Deadpool 3 is set to be released on September 6, 2024.
Confirmed Characters
Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds)
Of course, you can’t have a Deadpool movie without Deadpool, duh. Ryan Reynolds played the role he was born to play for the first in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Unfortunately, his debut was pretty forgettable. Fortunately, Ryan got the play faithful adaptation of the character in the 2016 movie Deadpool, which rebooted the character and introduced the audience to the Deadpool we know and love. The first movie was the highest-grossing R-rated movie at the time, and the sequel Deadpool 2, which was released two years later, was equally successful both critically and commercially. Reynolds will return in Deadpool 3 at Marvel Studios, but it’s pretty safe to say this won’t be his last time playing the most vulgar comic book character ever.
The Wolverine (Hugh Jackman)
Ryan Reynolds’ announcement that Hugh Jackman will return to play the role he’s most known for, despite initially saying that he’s done after 2017’s Logan, has certainly made Deadpool 3 one of the most anticipated, maybe even the most anticipated MCU movie at the moment. We could’ve assumed that if anyone could get Jackman to return, it would be Ryan, which was even teased in the mid-credit scene of Deadpool 2. Jackman made his debut as the Wolverine in the original X-Men movie in 2000. After more than two decades, Jackman still remains the longest-running Marvel actor of all time, and it’s hard to assume anyone will ever manage to beat that record.
Blind Al (Leslie Uggams)
We’ve met Leslie Uggams as, in Deadpool’s words, a Robin to his Batman in the original 2016 movie. She reprised the role in the sequel two years later, and both Uggams and Reynolds teased earlier this year that we will see Blind Al again in the threequel.
Possible and/or Expected Characters
Domino (Zazie Beetz)
Zazie Beetz played a badass lucky lady known as Domino in Deadpool 2, and she received praise for her performance. Domino was one of the members of Deadpool’s X-Force and, apart from Deadpool himself, she was the only one who survived the first landing. She later helped him in the fight against cable and against Juggernaut. Beetz previously said that she would love to return as Domino, and given the ending of Deadpool 2, her return in the threequel is definitely expected.
Laura (Dafne Keen)
Dafne Keen starred as Laura aka X-23 in Logan. She played a mutant who is a clone and adoptive daughter of Wolverine. Keen was 12 years old when she played the character for the first time, but knowing MCU, it wouldn’t be a surprise if she’d return as X-23, maybe in Deadpool 3, or maybe in some other mutant-associated project in the MCU. Will we definitely see her? We don’t know. Would we like to see her again as X-23? Definitely.
Colossus (Stefan Kapičić)
Daniel Cudmore played Peter Rasputin aka Colossus in the original X-Men trilogy and X-Men: Days of the Future Past. However, in Deadpool movies, Andre Tricoteux played the character on set, while Stefan Kapicic provided the voice. Colossus had a much bigger role in Deadpool movies than Cudmore’s Colossus had. The character was presented as a friend of Deadpool who tried to make him an X-Man. Colossus aided Deadpool in final fights in both Deadpool movies, and given the importance of the character, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him again in the threequel.
Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand)
Negasonic Teenage Warhead first appeared in Fox’s X-Men franchise in the first Deadpool movie as Colossus’ trainee and friend. She reprised her role in the sequel, and just like Colossus, her return in Deadpool 3 is something that fans are expecting. Just like Wade said in Deadpool 2: “We need ’em tough, morally flexible, and young enough so they can carry this franchise 10-12 years”, well, Negasonic can put “checked” on all those requirements.
Cable (Josh Brolin)
This one is particularly interesting. We all know that Josh Brolin played Thanos, the big bad of the MCU’s Infinity Saga. When you have a character who can not break, but obliterate the fourth wall like Deadpool, you know that he didn’t hesitate to let us know that Thanos actor played Cable in Deadpool 2. If Brolin would reprise the role in Deadpool 3, that would be his second role in the MCU. Of course, that isn’t something that MCU hasn’t seen before (one actor playing two different roles). But, in Thano… I mean, Cable’s case, and when you add Deadpool to the mix, you get something that every Marvel fan would definitely love to see.
Vanessa (Morena Baccarin)
Every superhero, or anti-hero, must have a love interest, and Deadpool is no exception. Morena Baccarin played Vanessa, Deadpool’s girlfriend in both Deadpool movies. Baccarin recently said that she has no idea if they’re going to include Vanessa in the script for the threequel, but she didn’t try to hide that she would love to return. Although Vanessa was killed off at the beginning of Deadpool 2, she was brought back to life in the mid-credit scene of the movie because, well, why would she stay dead when they can easily return her? Well, now we can ask: why they wouldn’t include her in Deadpool 3 when they definitely can? It’d be great to see if she and Wade became parents in the meantime.
Dopinder (Karan Soni)
While Batman has the Batmobile, Deadpool prefers to use a cab, but only if his friend Dopinder is sitting behind the wheel. Karan Soni played a taxi driver Dopinder in both Deadpool movies, and Dopinder was always there when Deadpool and his companions needed transport. We can only imagine how would Dopinder react if the Wolverine would enter his cab. That would probably be the greatest day of his life.
Firefist (Julian Dennison)
Russell Collins, also known as the mutant Firefist, appeared in Deadpool 2 played by Julian Dennison. We could say, while Wolverine has Laura, Deadpool has Firefist as his ward. Given the ending of Deadpool 2, where the whole team gathered, we can assume that we could see Dennison as Firefist again. Only time will tell.
Yukio (Shiori Kutsuna)
Yukio is one of the few supporting characters that appeared in both original and the revised timeline of the franchise. Rila Fukushima played the character in 2013’s The Wolverine, while Shiori Kutsuna played Yukio in Deadpool 2. In the latter, Yukio was depicted as Negasonic’s girlfriend and a member of X-Men. And if you need someone tough, morally flexible, and young enough to carry this franchise for 10-12 years, just like Negasonic, Yukio definitely meets all the conditions. And let’s be real, who wouldn’t love to hear “bye Wade, bye Yukio” again?
Peter (Rob Delaney)
Okay, we’re not really expecting him to be back. But hey, it’s Peter, so everything’s possible.
