Eternals Director Explains The Backstory Of Harry Styles’ Eros

The 26th MCU movie Eternals will soon be streaming on Disney+. Part of the fanbase is surely excited to rewatch the film in the comfort of their own home for the first time since the movie premiered in theaters last November.
Directed by Academy Award winner Chloé Zhao, Eternals introduced fans to the new titular superhero group and a lot of new characters that we can expect to see again in the future of the MCU. The movie’s ending, in which the group was split, has set multiple paths towards the future of the MCU for Eternals.
In the mid-credits scene of the movie, we witnessed the debut of Eros, prince of Titan, and Thanos’ much more handsome brother. The character was played by Harry Styles, which surprised many fans considering Eros’ debut or Styles’ involvement in the movie was never revealed prior to the release of the movie. We see that Marvel can keep secrets when they want to.
In a recent interview with Empire, Chloé Zhao explained Eros’ backstory, considering we haven’t seen much of him, only that short scene. Still, we’re sure we can expect a lot of him from the future.
“For me, the backstory of Eros is that he deserted, he said, ‘I’m not doing this anymore.’ So he somehow got that sphere, which you saw in his hand, and he ran off and made Pip the troll. They’re like Han Solo and Chewie. Arishem’ s been looking for him, and he’s just been a space outlaw. That’s the character I had in my mind. But I never said once to Kevin [Feige], ‘Here’s the character. Let’s find an actor.’ For me, it was a package deal. It’s got to be Harry. That’s how I pitched it to Kevin.” — Chloé Zhao for Empire
The post-credit scene of the movie also teased Kit Harington‘s MCU future. His character Dane Whitman should become Black Knight. The very end of that scene also revealed that Eternals will return. Which ones, and when, where, or how is anyone’s guess.
Eternals will be streaming on Disney+ on January 12, 2022.
