Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is a manga and anime series currently among the most popular anime airing. It has perfectly combined Japanese fiction’s artistry with Western fiction’s tropes to create a wonderful fantasy work that is extremely popular worldwide, and for a good reason. You can understand that various characters and types of characters appear in this fantasy series, and among them is Lügner, a powerful demon serving under Aura. In this article, we are going to talk about Lügner’s special skill, Balterie, as we are going to explain what it does while also telling you about Lügner’s weakness.

  • Article Breakdown:
  • Lügner is a secondary villain from the Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End manga and anime. He is a Demon who appeared as a peace envoy of Aura the Guillotine, whose forces had been fighting Graf Granat’s forces.
  • His special ability is Blood Manipulation. It lets him use his blood as a weapon or shield in battle, as he can manipulate it however he wants to. His special attack is called Balterie, and it is exceptionally fatal.
  • Lügner’s two known weaknesses are his heart, which is his weak spot, and the volume of his blood, as it is limited, which means that Lügner cannot keep using his powers forever.

Lügner’s abilities are related to his own blood and are exceptional

Blood Manipulation is Lügner’s special ability, letting him manipulate his blood, as you can probably assume. He can use his blood as a weapon and doesn’t need to be properly sliced. Its shape and state (solid or liquid) are up to him to decide; he can shape it any way he pleases and utilize it for attack or defense. He has demonstrated how to shape it into a whip, a blade, and a massive clawed hand that he can use to strike or block other blows.

But Lügner’s blood has other uses besides fighting; it can be used for healing. Specifically, as we’ve seen, Lügner was injured but not killed when Fern used a modified version of Zoltraak to blast off his left arm, after which he simply regenerated it using his blood.

He also possesses a trademark spell called Blood Manipulation: Balterie, further enhancing his potency. He can use this spell to create many blood tendrils that he can employ to guard himself from other spells and attacks, as well as to wield spears or arrow-like weapons.

What is Lügner’s weakness?

Seeing how Lügner feeds his own power through his own blood, you can understand why Balterie is so powerful and why it is not easy to counter it. Still, as Lügner’s battle against Fern showed, the powerful demon nobleman has two important weaknesses that allow someone with enough skill to actually defeat him and with relative ease. Once one is aware of Lügner’s weaknesses and is strong enough to do it, defeating Lügner becomes relatively simple. So, what are these weaknesses?

The first one is his heart. When Fern tries to strike him in the chest, he immediately defends himself, showing that he has something he needs to protect there. He can regenerate other parts of his body with his blood, as he has already done, but his heart is the source, and he cannot risk it being injured. This makes sense since the heart is closely related to blood, so it is only natural that someone whose main power is related to his own blood would be very closely related to his heart. This is why his heart is his primary weakness.

The other major weakness we are talking about is the volume of his blood. Namely, we know that the human body has a limited blood volume at any given time. Demonic bodies might be able to store more inside, but the volume is still limited, regardless of how high that limit actually is.

So, this means that Lügner’s source of power, his blood, is not limitless and that he will lose his blood, his powers, and his life if he keeps using his powers for too long. He will drain himself and will simply wither away and die. This is why he was unable to actually fight Fern for a long time, as he was aware that his body would not last that long; he would’ve drained his blood prior to Fern draining her own mana.

These are Lügner’s two main weaknesses, which show that he can be easily defeated if one knows how to do it.
