Frieren: Was Eisen Immune to Poison?

The characters we’ve seen in Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End are truly amazing. Although Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is a Japanese work, the authors behind the project have tried to create a fantasy world familiar to both Japanese and Western fans of the series. In this article, we will discuss one of the main characters in the series, Eisen the Dwarf, who is the only member of the original group, save for Frieren, who is still alive in the present timeline. In this article, we are going to discuss a story that Frieren mentioned, which implies that Eisen is supposedly immune to poisons. Is he? Keep reading to find out!
Eisen was, by all means, not immune to poison, but he was strong enough to fight it off without any help
Eisen was introduced as the Dwarf of the group of four that defeated the Demon King. He did not talk much, and when Himmel discussed how they would all have to find work later, he simply scoffed at the thought. He is not a talkative person, so when he talks, his sentences are usually short and to the point. It was revealed that he and Himmel almost got the group in trouble ten years prior because they were disrespectful to the King, so Frieren and Heiter had to vouch for them.
Eisen was a powerful warrior and he later took up Stark as his apprentice. He was a strict mentor, but he simply wanted to teach Stark how to fight and how to become a proper warrior. Stark sometimes mistook his strictness for lack of care, but Eisen was a caring mentor, and he had Stark’s best interests in mind, which is why Stark often remembered his mentor’s teaching during his own adventures.
While leaving Sein’s village in Alt Woods, Stark got bitten by a snake. Although he initially only bled from his nose, which didn’t seem too problematic, it later turned out that it was a fatal poison, and had Sein not saved him, his brain would have melted and dripped out of his nose. But this is not as important now. Namely, before returning to the village, Stark himself said that he felt fine and that Eisen had taught him that any poison can be fought off with enough (will)power, without the need for an antidote or a magical spell.
Frieren then remembered an old story when two arrows with enough poison struck Eisen to knock out a dragon. What happened to Eisen? Absolutely nothing. He stood there like normal, with the two arrows inside him, and nothing happened. He was completely unfazed by the poison, which completely freaked out Heiter, who was ready to heal him. This is how Frieren remembered that Eisen was able to power through being poisoned, which is quite significant in terms of Stark’s situation. And it also raises the question – was Eisen just immune to poisons?
Well, as a Dwarf, Eisen was certainly stronger than your average human, and he definitely had a stronger physical constitution than Stark and the others. On top of that, he had trained himself to such a degree that he could withstand extensive damage, so a little poison shouldn’t be an issue. So no, we do not think that he was immune to poison – he was simply strong enough to resist it without help.
As for Stark, he wasn’t strong enough and he had to be taken back to the village to be healed by Sein, or he would have died. Eisen was special in many ways, and he passed on many of his skills to Stark, but this was one special trait that Stark still has to master, and it is debatable whether he is even able to do it, as it could very well be that Eisen was able to power through the poisoning because Dwarves are built stronger than humans.
