Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End has perfectly combined Japanese fiction’s artistry with Western fiction’s tropes to create a wonderful fantasy work that is extremely popular worldwide, and for a good reason. While the protagonists are the story’s focus, in this article, we will discuss another character whose role is that of a secondary character but who left a significant impact on the story in the recent episode. The character in question is Lord Ordern, a nobleman who hired Stark to play his deceased son. Frieren immediately recognized him, and in this article, you’re going to find out how she was able to do it, as well as who Lord Ordern actually is.

  • Article Breakdown:
  • Lord Ordern is a secondary character in Frieren, a nobleman from the north who owns a large estate and is a knight. He met with Frieren’s party and hired Stark to play the role of his deceased son.
  • Stark looks a lot like his late son, Wirt, and Ordern did not want his people’s morals to break while they were rebuilding their forces, so he lied that Wirt was simply healing from his battle wounds.
  • He later offered Stark to stay with him since their families come from the same village, but Stark refused because he wanted to return to his master, Eisen.

Lord Ordern is a nobleman from the north

As Frieren and her party, now accompanied by Sein, continue on their way to Ende, a Chaos Flower first attacks them, but they survive thanks to Sein’s skills. Later, as they reached Voring – the halfway point to Äußerst – they were met by a strict-looking nobleman who offered them a lot of money if Stark would come with him and pretend to be his son. As they met in his large estate, Frieren identified him as Lord Ordern, which surprised the nobleman.

Frieren then explained that she knew about this estate from her earlier adventure and that Ordern looked a lot like his grandfather, whom she had met then. This calmed Ordern down, and he then explained why he had summoned them.

He was presented as a truly noble person. Strict and seemingly cold, he carried a heavy and painful truth inside him with dignity. He cared about his people, as well as his only remaining son, Mut, whom he looked after and taught him how to become a better person. He also regretted the fact that he and his late son, Wirt, parted in such a way, as before Wirt’s death, the two of them had quarreled over a stupid thing, as Ordern himself said.

He was also a trustworthy person, as he fulfilled his part of the deal, and he even offered Stark a place in his family. All in all, Ordern was yet another wonderful addition to the cast of Frieren, and we are now going to explain more about his goals in the series.

Why did Lord Orden want Stark to pretend to be his son?

As we’ve said and explained, Ordern summoned the party to his estate and offered them a substantial sum of money if Stark would play his late son. Stark was initially reluctant to do it, but since the party needed the money, he accepted and began learning the proper etiquette. But why such a strange request?

Well, Lord Ordern was the protector of Vorig, and his son was a member of his army and one of his best warriors. Sadly, during a recent fight, Wirt died, and since their army was also heavily decimated, Ordern decided to hide that fact from the people until the army was rebuilt; otherwise, their morals would break, and everything would become useless.

Ordern told the people that Wirt was simply recovering from his wounds, but since a major event was coming up in three months’ time, Wirt had to show up. Seeing the physical similarities between Wirt and Stark, he offered him the task. It was a rough three months for the young warrior, who had to wear nobleman’s clothes, learn how to eat, speak, and behave properly, as well as how to dance and use the Lord’s family’s special sword technique.

But, seeing how the story really had some deeper meaning to it, Stark did it properly, and we can only confirm that it was a beautiful piece of character development for him, especially since it deepened his bond with Fern.

Why did Stark decline Orden’s offer to stay with him?

Before we wrap this up, let us quickly reveal what happened to this mission, i.e., how it all ended later in the story. Namely, the event came, and Stark did a great job as Wirt, which satisfied everyone. Ordern, as promised, gave the reward to Frieren, but over that period of time, the nobleman actually bonded with the young warrior.

The two of them, as Ordern revealed, stem from the same warrior village, and they may even be related. But, regardless of that fact (as it has not been confirmed in the series), Lord Ordern offered Stark to stay with him and his family as long as he wanted, not as Wirt, but as Stark. He saw a lot of good in the young warrior, and since the two of them bonded in the meantime, Ordern offered him a chance to stay with them.

Remembering his own mentor, Eisen, Stark told Orden that he was grateful for the offer but that he had to decline it, as he wanted to return to his mentor and tell him about all the stories and adventures that he had with Frieren and Fern, which is something he would not be able to do if he stayed with Ordern. And the two of them parted ways as friends.
