Skyrim: Here’s How To Become a Werewolf After Curing It

Share:

Beast Form was a new thing introduced in Skyrim that allowed the player to transform into a werewolf and acquire several powerful new abilities. No matter how powerful the Beast Form is, in the base game, it was kind of underwhelming when it came to convenience and overall usability. With the introduction of Dawnguard DLC and additional improvements made to both werewolves and vampires, many players who formerly cured themselves of lycanthropy started asking the same question. Can you become a werewolf again after curing it once?

  • Article Breakdown:
  • You can become a werewolf again in Skyrim only if you have Dawnguard DLC installed. In that case, you can ask Aela the Huntress to turn you into a werewolf, but only once.
  • If, however, you are playing on PC, you can use the console command and re-acquire the werewolf form an infinite number of times.

The only way to become a werewolf in the first place is to join Companions

You can become a werewolf in Skyrim by advancing through the Companions storyline, during which you will be obligated to accept the gift of Beast Blood, aka become a werewolf. You will be asked to join Aella in the Underforge, and she will share her “beast blood” with you, transforming you into a werewolf.

While Ring of Hircine gives you additional werewolf transformations, the ring only works if you are already a werewolf, so it doesn’t count as a way to become a werewolf. Werewolf form has its own pros and cons, and we’ve covered the form in more detail in one of our past articles when we compared werewolves and vampires, so if you’re interested in what you’re getting yourself into, give it a read.

As you can see, becoming a werewolf is strictly tied to the Companions quests, and so is curing lycanthropy.

How to cure lycanthropy in Skyrim?

There are two approaches to curing lycanthropy in Skyrim, and both approaches require you to finish the Companions questline. You can cure yourself of Lycantrhophy during the quest Glory of the Dead when you’re curing Kodlak Whitemane, or you can wait until after the storyline has been completed, and you can pick up the radiant quest “Purity,” during which either Vilkas or Farkas ask for help to be cleansed of lycanthropy. In all cases, you will need to burn the Glenmoril Witch’s head at the altar in Ysgrammor’s tomb, and you will need to fight with your inner manifestation of lycanthropy.

In the base game, once you’ve cured yourself of lycanthropy, that was it. There was no way to become a werewolf again. Everything changed with the addition of Dawnguard, which overhauled the lycanthropy to some extent and allowed the Dragonborn to become afflicted by it once again.

Can you become a werewolf in Skyrim after curing it?

If you have Dawnguard installed, you can become a werewolf once again after initially curing it. All you need to do is approach Aela the Huntress in Jorrvaskr in Whiterun and activate the appropriate dialogue options. To become a werewolf for the second time in Skyrim, follow these steps:

  1. Find Aela the Huntress. You can usually find her wandering through Jorrvaskr in Whiterun.
  2. Ask her about becoming a werewolf again. She will give you the option to reconsider if you change your mind at the last minute.
  3. Your screen will go black for a moment, and you will be surrounded by a magical aura. Your second transformation will be completely different than the first one. The only indicator that you are a werewolf again will be a message in the upper corner of the screen stating, “Beast Blood added”
  4. When you become a werewolf again, you will be able to keep the progress that you accumulated the last time you were a werewolf.

Aela will turn you into a werewolf only once after you’ve cured yourself, as the dialogue option and the quest associated with it become exhausted after you’ve used them once. If you’re playing on PC, however, there is a way around it, and you can easily overcome the limit set by the game.

If you’re playing on consoles, however, you can become a werewolf twice, as there will be no more chances and opportunities to regain the gift of Beast Blood.

How to become a werewolf in Skyrim after curing it multiple times?

You can become a werewolf in Skyrim an infinite amount of times with the use of console commands. If you don’t use console commands, the dialogue option (and the quest stage) associated with re-acquiring the werewolf form disappear from the game after you activate them for the second time. There is a way around it, and all you need to do is use console commands. To become a werewolf several times after curing it, follow these steps:

  1. Approach Aela after curing lycanthropy once again, and you will see that there is no way to ask her to make you a werewolf one more time.
  2. Open the console by pressing “~.”
  3. Type resetquest DLC1RegiftingLycanthropy and press enter.
  4. Interact with Aela once again, and the option should appear.

You can execute this command as many times as you like but beware that it’s technically considered cheating.

To sum everything up, if you’re playing on consoles or you don’t want to cheat, you can become a werewolf only once after initially curing it.

However, if you have no qualms about using console commands to reset the quest stages and dialogue associated with them, you can become a werewolf as many times as you like.

Every time you re-acquire the Beast Form, you will be able to pick up right where you left off when it comes to the werewolf perk tree and acquiring perk points, meaning that your progress toward becoming a powerful werewolf is not reset.
