Minecraft: Here’s Why You Keep Getting Logged Out (& How To Fix It)

Share:

Have you ever gone into your Minecraft world and worked on something for a couple of hours, only for it to be ruined by Minecraft automatically logging you out of the game? It’s more often than one might think, and the causes are numerous. So, why are you getting logged out of Minecraft, and how do you fix it?

  • Article Breakdown:
  • The most frequent reason why someone might be getting logged out of their Minecraft account is internet connection stability.
  • You’ll have to check whether it’s stable or not, and when you manage to make it stable, log in again and continue playing.

Minimum and recommended system specifications to run Minecraft

Minecraft used to be a game you could run no matter your PC. For all the game cared, you could have owned a microwave of a PC, and it still would’ve worked fine. Unfortunately, with numerous updates over the years and quality-of-life changes, the system requirements grew.

I should note that almost anyone can run Minecraft with the minimum system requirements. You shouldn’t, however, expect excellent performance and no lagging with the bare minimum. That’s why we differentiate between the minimum and recommended system requirements. Let’s see how strong of a PC you’ll need to run Minecraft:

Minimum system requirements:

RAM – 4GB
GPU – Intel HD 4000 or Radeon R5 220
CPU – Intel Celeron J4105 or FX-4100
OS – Windows 10

Recommended system requirements:

RAM – 8 GB
GPU – Nvidia GeForce 940M or Radeon HD 8570D
CPU – Intel Core i7 6500U or A8-6600K
OS – Windows 10

Comparing the two, it’s clear that the minimum and recommended specs are light years away from being similar. Being able to play Minecraft used to be cheap; I guess it’s not anymore. Why am I bothering you with this in an article meant to discuss issues with logging out of Minecraft?

Why this is important

Knowing the minimum and recommended system specifications for running Minecraft is important for logging out of Minecraft because your computer might not be able to handle the increasingly bigger system requirements, so Minecraft keeps crashing and logging you out.

Not even two years ago, Minecraft switched from 32-bit systems to 64-bit systems meaning that anyone running a 32-bit system isn’t able to play the game anymore. However, this isn’t why you keep getting logged out since you wouldn’t even be able to play the game on a 32-bit system anymore. It’s just an example of how, over the years, the PC demands for running Minecraft grew.

Frequent AFK-ing

Minecraft players often play the game by AFK-ing. They make automatic farms and gather the resources needed to move on with their projects. AFK-ing for prolonged periods may sometimes lead to the game logging you out since there’s no activity. The only fix to this is interacting with and playing the game. It doesn’t have to be anything big; you can simply take a step forward and back occasionally to prevent the logout from happening.

Internet connection stability

Although you don’t need an internet connection to play single-player Minecraft, you do need one if you’re playing on a server. Having something not be right on the server owner’s end shouldn’t lead to a complete logout from Minecraft on your part, so chances are, your internet connection isn’t stable, which is causing the logouts.

There are several ways to check your internet connection, but the best and most trusted one is to open the command prompt and check your ping there. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Press the Windows + R key
  2. A window will pop up. Then, in the search bar of that window, type in ‘CMD’ and press enter.
  3. You will now find yourself in the command prompt. To check your ping, type in this command: ping -t google.com
  4. When you press enter every second or so, your PC will give you updates on your ping.
  5. Try and test this when the logout happens to see if there was a ping spike while you were playing.

What’s considered normal ping(ms) is up for debate. Most importantly, your ping is stable and isn’t spiking like it is in the example below.

Third-party mods and mod interactions

You can access thousands of mods for free if you play Minecraft Java. This is all fine and dandy, but some mods interact with one another in weird ways, which may lead to the game logging you out. If this is a recent problem, try removing any mods you might have downloaded during that time.

To determine which mod was causing you problems if logouts stopped completely, you should add the mods one by one again and see if one is logging you out. If all else fails, you can always ensure that the mods you have are compatible with the version of Minecraft you’re running.

Making sure you’re running the correct Minecraft and Minecraft Launcher version

There is a slight chance that you might be using an incorrect launcher version riddled with bugs that have been solved with the release of a newer version. There are several ways to update the launcher, so let’s see how you do it.

  1. Open up your Minecraft launcher.
  2. You’ll find an arrow next to the play button; click on it.
  3. Then, choose the latest release option, and you should be ready to go.

Another way you can update the launcher is through the Microsoft store. You’ll update the launcher just like you would any other app, so let’s check out how one would do it using this method:

  1. Go to the Microsoft store and navigate to the three dots on the top right side of the screen.
  2. In the drop-down menu that appears, search for Downloads and Updates and click on it.
  3. Then, click on Get Updates
  4. This will update all your installed applications which also includes Minecraft.
