How Is ‘The Book Of Boba Fett’ Connected To ‘The Mandalorian’?
One of the things that Disney and Lucasfilms seem to be working on is an extended Star Wars universe that focuses more on the side stories happening in the galaxy. In that regard, The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett are two shows that have been released to show us a different side of the Star Wars narrative. While we do know how The Mandalorian is loosely connected to the entire Star Wars picture, how is The Book of Boba Fett connected to The Mandalorian?
Both The Book of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian at the same time and may feature characters that can be found in both shows. And before The Book of Boba Fett was released, we saw Boba Fett in the second season of The Mandalorian, as he was trying to recover his armor from Din Djarin.
As you can see, the biggest connection between the two shows is their shared timeline. Both The Book of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian happen in the same universe and at the same time, and that is why it is intriguing to see how the events in both of these shows unfold, as there is a possibility that they will converge at one point in the future.
Is The Book Of Boba Fett Related To The Mandalorian?
When Disney acquired the rights to Star Wars, and after Disney+ first started streaming, it became clear that the entertainment giant was ready to release a lot of Star Wars content. We saw this when The Mandalorian became the first big hit in the Disney+ library of original series. And now, we are once again seeing another amazing Star Wars series in the form of The Book of Boba Fett, which is focused more on the famous bounty hunter.
However, is The Book of Boba Fett related to The Mandalorian?
Those who first heard of The Mandalorian when it was announced actually thought that the show was going to be about Boba Fett because he was the only Mandalorian we thought was still alive after the fall of the Empire in Return of the Jedi. However, it was later revealed that The Mandalorian is about an entirely new character who is not even related to any of the past Star Wars stories.
Despite the fact that The Mandalorian is an entirely new story, there are loose connections between it and some of the past Star Wars movies and series. We saw Din Djarin, the titular Mandalorian, meeting some of the characters we saw in the past. On top of that, there were also themes that were loosely connected to some of the events that transpired during the past Star Wars movies and series.
In that regard, one of the people that Din Djarin met along the way in his mission to protect Grogu (aka Baby Yoda) is the famous bounty hunter named Boba Fett. Now, without getting into any of the important details yet, we saw Boba Fett clashing but ultimately helping Din Djarin in The Mandalorian.
After the events of The Mandalorian, it was then announced that Disney+ would be releasing a spin-off that focuses entirely on Boba Fett. Entitled The Book of Boba Fett, the series just started airing and is still in the early parts of its story. And since The Book of Boba Fett happens right after the events involving Boba Fett in The Mandalorian, it is easy to say that this show is related to The Mandalorian.
How Is ‘The Book Of Boba Fett’ Connected To ‘The Mandalorian’ TV Show
Now that we have already established that there is a relationship between The Book of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian, how exactly are the two shows connected to one another other than Boba Fett’s appearance?
For starters, what you should know is that both The Book of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian take place right after Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. The exact events of The Mandalorian took place five years after the fall of the Empire in Return of the Jedi. As such, it is safe to say that The Book of Boba Fett happens right around the same time as well.
This means that the first connection between The Book of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian is that they both happen at the same time. Of course, The Book of Boba Fett starts off right after Boba Fett made his appearance in The Mandalorian, and there is a good reason for that.
In The Mandalorian, we were reintroduced to Boba Fett, who was last seen in Return of the Jedi in terms of the Star Wars timeline (Episode II: Attack of the Clones, if we go by the real-world timeline). However, the last time we saw him, Boba was seemingly killed when he was eaten by the Sarlacc. But his appearance in The Mandalorian confirms that he did indeed survive getting eaten by the Sarlacc in Return of the Jedi.
Boba Fett’s appearance in The Mandalorian paved the way for the events that happen in The Book of Boba Fett, or at least before the events that transpired in episode 1 of Boba Fett’s series.
In The Mandalorian, as Din Djarin was on his way to help Grogu connect with the remaining Jedi, Boba Fett made a sudden appearance demanding the Mandalorian for his armor, which fell in Djarin’s possession following the events with the Krayt Dragon. After a standoff between the two skilled fighters, Fett and Djarin agreed to help one another to make sure that Grogu was able to contact the remaining Jedi. Of course, the deal was for Fett to get his armor back from Djarin.
After he got his armor back, Boba Fett and his new partner Fennec Shand continued to work together with Din Djarin to save Grogu, who was captured by Moff Gideon. Aboard Slave I, the same ship his father used in Attack of the Clones, Fett was able to assist Djarin in infiltrating Gideon’s ship and save Grogu in the process. After that, Boba Fett and Fennec Shand left the crew, as they had already done their part.
So, the reason why The Book of Boba Fett is connected to The Mandalorian is that the events in the latter were important in setting up Boba Fett’s rise to power in his own series. In The Book of Boba Fett, we are able to see the titular character acting as the new ruler of Jabba’s palace. He even went on to recruit some of Jabba’s former henchmen under his rule as one of the newer crime bosses in Tatooine.
It can be presumed that Boba Fett was able to take control of Jabba’s palace thanks to his armor and the assistance of Fennec Shand, a skilled assassin in her own right. Without his armor, Boba Fett was a shell of his former self because he didn’t have access to the armaments and protection that his Mandalorian armor gave him. But, with his armor, Fett was able to regain his former glory as one of the most dangerous bounty hunters in the entire galaxy.
With his armor, Boba Fett was now strong enough to take over the remnants of Jabba’s former crime syndicate. As such, without the events in The Mandalorian, Fett would never have been strong enough to become one of the crime bosses of Tatooine.
Is Din Djarin In The Book Of Boba Fett?
As mentioned, Boba Fett’s appearance in The Mandalorian was one of the biggest surprises in the series. That’s because it not only confirmed Fett’s survival but also confirmed the possibility of a Boba Fett spin-off series. So, given the fact that Boba Fett made an appearance in The Mandalorian, is Din Djarin also in The Book of Boba Fett?
Since The Book of Boba Fett had just started streaming, there is no confirmation as to whether or not Din Djarin is going to make an appearance in Boba Fett’s own series. However, there is still a possibility that this can happen.
In season 2 of The Mandalorian, Din Djarin’s mission of handing Grogu over to the Jedi was already finished, and that left him with nothing to do. Of course, The Mandalorian will still have a third season, but the possible events of that season have not been set up.
This means that there is a good chance that Din Djarin will make an appearance in The Book of Boba Fett and that whatever happens to him in that series will set up season 3 of The Mandalorian, just like how The Mandalorian helped in setting up The Book of Boba Fett.
Will There Be Other Characters From The Mandalorian?
As early as episode 1 of The Book of Boba Fett, we saw Fennec Shand, who appeared in The Mandalorian and is most probably one of the most important characters in the Boba Fett series. However, other than Fett and Shand, will there be other characters appearing from The Mandalorian?
Given the fact that both The Book of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian take place at the same time, there is a good chance that we will be seeing other characters crossing over from one series to the other. Of course, this is only a possibility because The Book of Boba Fett might focus on introducing new characters or even some old ones that we saw in the previous Star Wars movies and spin-offs.
