We all know that Dragon Ball is full of some of the most outrageously powerful characters in all of anime. While we often look at Goku and Vegeta as two of the strongest protagonists in Dragon Ball, we cannot forget how powerful Gohan is as well because his potential has always been talked about. Nevertheless, he wasn’t able to make use of his potential because he didn’t love fighting and training. Then again, we did see him reach the final stage of his true potential in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.
However, the thing about Gohan Beast is that we never got an explanation as to how truly strong he is. We know for sure that he is incredibly powerful and was capable of easily defeating Cell Max in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. But how well does he compare to the other Dragon Ball characters? That’s what we are here to find out.
How Strong Is Gohan Beast?
Since Gohan was introduced as a character during Dragon Ball Z, what we came to understand was the fact that he already had incredible power as a child. During his toddler years, he was already powerful enough to surprise Piccolo and had an innate power that surpassed child Goku’s own power. And it was through intense training that Gohan was able to make use of the fraction of his innate potential.
Due to Gohan’s potential, his progression as a fighter was quite quick because, during his younger teenage years, he was already able to unlock his Super Saiyan form. And due to his intense training and anger, he was the first to unlock Super Saiyan 2, which was a form that Goku and Vegeta could not achieve until the Buu Saga.
But the problem with Gohan was that he didn’t train as hard as either Goku or Vegeta, and that meant that he wasn’t always at their level in terms of his power. Still, he became the strong non-fusion character in Dragon Ball Z when he unlocked what is often called Ultimate Gohan, which was when the Supreme Kai unlocked his access to his inner potential. He was so powerful that he was immensely stronger than Super Buu.
Still, by the time Dragon Ball Super began, Gohan had regressed because he focused more on his role as a father that needed to provide for his family. He didn’t train as hard as Goku, Vegeta, or even Piccolo and was easily defeated by Frieza’s men due to his regression. Still, Gohan was able to reawaken his Ultimate form by the time the Tournament of Power began because he found the will to train again. But Gohan’s best form was not enough for Cell Max during the Super Hero movie.
Gohan, however, through his intense anger when Piccolo got injured, was finally able to unlock his “Final” form, which is called Gohan Beast. This allowed him to easily defeat Cell Max, who was stronger than any of the fighters that Earth had to offer, while Goku and Vegeta were away. So, just how strong is Gohan Beast?
At this point, we cannot truly state how strong Gohan Beast is because the only points of comparison that we have are Cell Max and Orange Piccolo. Still, we do know that this is the evolved form of his Potential Unleashed state, and he was able to reach power levels that rival some of the best in the Dragon Ball anime and manga.
The only thing that we do know is that both Gohan and Piccolo agreed that they weren’t sure if Goku and Vegeta would have been able to defeat Cell Max. But we’ll get to that conversation later on.
How Does Gohan Beast Compare To The Other Dragon Ball Characters?
For us to best estimate just how strong Gohan Beast is, let’s look at how he could probably compare to some of the other notable characters in the Dragon Ball anime and manga and how strong he is compared to them.
During the events of the Tournament of Power, Ultimate Gohan went up against Golden Frieza when the latter made Frost of Universe 6 believe that he had betrayed Universe 7. In that fight, Golden Frieza looked like he was stronger than Gohan, but it was later revealed that neither of them was actually serious in that fight.
Still, it is possible that Golden Frieza is stronger than Gohan’s Potential Unleashed state because Frieza’s most powerful form is just about as strong as Super Saiyan Blue Goku. That means that Gohan should be able to simply outclass Golden Frieza in his Beast state because of the fact that Gohan Beast is exponentially more powerful than Ultimate Gohan.
Since the last time Gohan faced Vegeta in battle was all the way back in his childhood years, we cannot really compare how far they have progressed since then, but we do know that Vegeta is at least just as strong as Goku because Akira Toriyama makes it a point for them to be equals or for Vegeta to catch up to Goku.
Gohan was able to absorb the full power of Goku’s Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-Ken x20 in his Potential Unleashed form, albeit he lost that fight. Since Vegeta’s Super Saiyan Blue Evolved form is just about as strong as Goku’s SSB KK x20, we can say for sure that Gohan Beast is more powerful than Vegeta’s strongest SSB form. On top of that, it was mentioned in Super Hero that they weren’t sure if Goku and Vegeta could have defeated Cell Max, and that was after Vegeta had unlocked SSB Evolved.
But the catch is that, in the manga, Vegeta had unlocked Ultra Ego, which is his own version of Ultra Instinct. This could mean that Gohan Beast is probably as powerful as Vegeta’s Ultra Ego or, at the very least, a tad below it.
The reason why Gohan and Piccolo said that they weren’t sure if Goku and Vegeta could have defeated Cell Max is the fact that Goku was yet to master Ultra Instinct at that time. He may have unlocked it in the Tournament of Power, but he couldn’t master it at will.
As such, Gohan and Piccolo must have been referring to Goku’s Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-Ken x20 when they said that they didn’t think he was strong enough to defeat Cell Max. And because Gohan defeated Cell Max with ease, he is surely more powerful than Goku’s SSB KK x20.
Then again, in the manga, Goku was able to master his Ultra Instinct in the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga. As such, it is possible that Gohan Beast is somewhere at or near the level of MUI Goku, which is a form that is exponentially more powerful than his SSB KK x20 form.
Of course, the most recent enemy that Goku and Vegeta faced in the animated form of Dragon Ball is Broly. In the Broly movie, neither Goku nor Vegeta could put a scratch on Legendary Super Saiyan Broly while they were in their Super Saiyan Blue forms. This forced them to fuse into Gogeta, who was able to outclass Super Saiyan Broly and, subsequently, Full Power Super Saiyan Broly.
That could mean that Broly, in his Legendary Super Saiyan form, could prove to be just as powerful as Cell Max, considering that neither Goku nor Vegeta could even match his power. Full Power Super Saiyan Broly, which was able to hold his own against Super Saiyan Blue Gogeta for a while, might be strong enough to handle Gohan Beast or is probably a level lower. And it might be possible that Gohan Beast is just about as powerful or is close to the power level of SSB Gogeta.
