How Strong is Jugram Haschwalth? Compared to Other Bleach Characters!

Share:

Most Bleach characters are actually popular because they are canon or have been present in the anime filler episodes, gaining notoriety despite the criticisms directed towards these episodes. Still, the Bleach universe also contains several light novels that supplement the canon story, most of which have been (semi-officially) confirmed as canon by Kubo. But, this article will focus on the canon manga as we will talk about one specific character from the manga’s final arc, which is Jugram Haschwalth, the Sternritter “B” – “The Balance.” Jugram Haschwalth was Yhwach’s right-hand man, and we think he deserves an article of his own.

The article is going to be divided into two major sections. The first one will represent Haschwalth’s powers and abilities, while the other one will be a short comparison of Haschwalth’s powers and abilities to the powers and abilities of other characters, divided into several subsections. These will not be detailed analyses, just brief comments so you can understand Haschwalth’s position in the Bleach lore.

Jugram Haschwalth: Powers and abilities explained

Jugram Haschwalth is an exceptionally important character in the lore of Tite Kubo’s Bleach. He is a Sternritter and a member of Yhwach’s Wandenreich; undoubtedly, he is one of Yhwach’s most loyal and most powerful allies and has shown himself to be a big threat to the Shinigami. He was also his royal advisor. Due to his powers, he was known as the Sternritter “B” – “The Balance.”

Haschwalth’s spiritual powers are comparable to, if not greater, those of a shinigami taichō. Haschwalth is a very perceptive man. As Yamamoto’s body became engulfed in flames when he used his Bankai Zanka no Tachi, Nishi: Zanjitsu Gokui, Haschwalth quickly realized that those flames were composed of Captain-Commander’s Reishi. Haschwalth also discovered that Yhwach deliberately caused confusion and discord among the Star Knights when he declared Uryū Ishida to be his successor.

It was also clear to him that Nanao Ise’s barrier that she used against Haschwalth must be a trap since the individual plates that made up the barrier were only loosely connected to each other.

As Quincy, Haschwalth can absorb spiritual energy in the form of reishi from the environment and combine it with his own spiritual powers to sculpt weapons and perform reishi-based techniques. As Quincy, Haschwalth can couple his spiritual energy by picking up Reishi to create weapons. His weapon of choice is a reishi broadsword with a long hilt. Haschwalth could effortlessly slash Ichigo Kurosaki’s Bankai Tensa Zangetsu.

Haschwalth inherited the Schrift “B,” meaning “The Balance.” The Balance is Haschwalth’s special technique through which he can manipulate unhappiness around him and give it to those who have experienced happiness in order to maintain a balance, a harmony in the world. Any “misfortune” coming to touch Haschwalth will be transmitted in his Freund Schild, putting him out of danger.

Consequently, any “happiness” that the adversary will experience by wounding Haschwalth or by countering an attack of this one will be converted into a “misfortune” of the same level by wounding him or receiving the attack that he tried to counter. In addition, the “misfortune” absorbed by his Freund Schild will descend on the adversary, inflicting more suffering on him.

Haschwalth is the only Quincy aside from Yhwach who can empower those around him, the first in the 200 years since Quincy King was born. Unlike other Quincys who can absorb the power, Haschwalth is one of the only ones who can do the opposite: distribute power. Although originally unable to absorb Reishi like other Quincys, he learned to absorb spirit particles as an adult. Because they share this technique, Yhwach considers him his other half. By staying with other individuals, Haschwalth can increase their potential.

When Yhwach is sleeping, he and Haschwalth switch powers. His personality also varies, from an advisor to a guardian, even an Emperor. But by his own admission, Haschwalth has an easier time using his own power than Yhwach’s. During this time period, Jugram possesses The Almighty, the absolute power of Yhwach. However, he only has access to the power of precognition of this technique, which he masters less well than Yhwach himself, according to his own admission. When he activates The Almighty, he gets multiple pupils in each eye.

How powerful is Jugram Haschwalth compared to other Bleach characters?

In this section, we will compare Jugram Haschwalth to some other prominent Bleach characters. These will be brief comparisons whose main goal is to give you a general idea of his powers and abilities.

Jugram Haschwalth vs. Ichigo Kurosaki

Jugram Haschwalth is, in our opinion, somewhere on the level of Ichigo Kurosaki. Sure, you’d argue that Ichigo could defeat Yhwach, but that happened with substantial help from Aizen and Ishida; alone, Ichigo would not have defeated the Quincy King. But, we do think he could defeat Jugram Haschwalth, although the two are on a similar power level.

Jugram Haschwalth vs. Kenpachi Zaraki

This one actually depends on Zaraki. In his regular and Shikai form, Jugram Haschwalth would probably be able to use his enormous intelligence to his advantage to defeat Zaraki’s raw power. But, if Zaraki were to activate his Bankai, then Jugram Haschwalth would simply not stand a chance against him, as he would be simply too powerful.

Jugram Haschwalth vs. the Royal Guard

Jugram Haschwalth is not stronger than the Royal Guard. Now, we’re absolutely certain that he wouldn’t be able to defeat one or two of them individually, but he would certainly lose to Ichibē Hyōsube and the Zero Division as a whole. This has been proven by the fact that only Yhwach was able to face them straightforwardly and that even Yhwach’s elite Sternritter lost to them (okay, they were then resurrected, but they lost). This means that Jugram Haschwalth alone couldn’t really do much against them.

Jugram Haschwalth vs. Sōsuke Aizen

Even though Yhwach caused a lot more damage to Soul Society, spiritually, Aizen remains the series’ best and biggest villain. We haven’t seen most of Aizen’s powers and abilities, including his Bankai, but even without that, he was incredibly powerful. Jugram Haschwalth might be powerful, but with a fully-powered Aizen, who managed to confuse even Yhwach? Nah, he simply wouldn’t stand a chance, as Aizen would take this one.

Jugram Haschwalth vs. Yhwach

As the leader of the Quincy who possesses all of the abilities inherent to the Quincy as a group, Ywhach is an exceptionally powerful character and someone who could easily defeat Jugram Haschwalth. The fact that Jugram Haschwalth is actually Yhwach’s subordinate speaks for itself, but we have to say that Jugram Haschwalth was quite close to Yhwach in many ways. He shared part of his powers and abilities, but he himself admitted that he was not on his master’s level.

Jugram Haschwalth vs. Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto

On numerous occasions, Yamamoto said that he was the strongest Shinigami in two millennia, and he has proven that to be true. He has amazing skills and powers, and the things he managed to survive are absolutely amazing. Yhwach was the only one who managed to defeat him, but he used a vile trick to do it. When he was witnessing the fight, Jugram Haschwalth stayed away; Yamamoto himself opted to ignore Jugram as he did not consider him a worthy opponent.

Jugram Haschwalth vs. Shunsui Kyōraku

Yamamoto considered Kyōraku and Ukitake to be his most talented pupils, and Kyōraku has consistently proven that he is worthy of Yamamoto’s praise. Despite his laid-back nature, Kyōraku is exceptionally powerful, and as the new Captain-Commander of the Gotei 13, he is certainly its most powerful Shinigami. Based on what we know about his powers and abilities, Kyōraku would definitely be able to defeat Jugram Haschwalth in a fight, although it would not be easy, and he would probably have to use his Bankai as well as some other tricks.

Jugram Haschwalth vs. Jūshirō Ukitake

The same could be said about Ukitake. Sure, Ukitake had a disease that reduced his powers, and we never learned his Bankai, but he was an exceptionally skilled Shinigami, and there is no doubt that he would be able to counter Jugram Haschwalth in a direct fight, especially due to the ability of his Shikai to counter non-physical attacks, but he was also an expert swordsman. This is why Ukitake would ultimately manage to defeat Jugram Haschwalth, as he is a much more skilled swordsman than him and would be able to counter his Kido powers.

Jugram Haschwalth vs. Kisuke Urahara

Urahara is probably the most intelligent character in the whole series and is as skilled as he is unpredictable. He is also enormously powerful, although he does look like a clog-and-hat-weating schumuck. His Bankai is one of the most powerful in the whole series, and while Jugram Haschwalth would have something to counter him, Urahara would definitely be able to find a way to defeat him in a battle, as he is a much more versatile fighter and someone who could quickly adapt to the altering conditions of a fight. Similarly to Aizen, Urahara would triumph thanks to his cunning intellect.
